Re: Crash's 1988 Land Cruiser Build
Mark,
Looking good and glad to see the dependable miles that you have enjoyed. Where did you get the latch that you use on you spare tire swingarm? Thanks Dwight |

Update time..
Installed new brake master cylinder. New http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_115602.jpg Old http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_115617.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_115625.jpg New rotors and calipers http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_141008.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_141036.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_141103.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...213_142954.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...214_130433.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...214_130449.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...214_130511.jpg Installed new light switch, I had cleaned the old one a couple of times. It would work for a few thousand miles and then the high beams would quit again. I ordered this from Thailand.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-90-TOYO...3D271788532925 It is a very nice looking item, but the wiring harness is about 3 inches shorter than the original. I was able to make it work, but not sure I like it. Time will tell. If I have to I will re-solder the old harness to the new switch, lots of work, and not sure it is worth it. Buyer beware.. It works, but…. Old switch http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...217_171636.jpg New http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...217_171656.jpg Together http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...217_172222.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...217_172246.jpg Over 17000 miles since the swap.. Made two 800+ trips in it last month. Stilling running strong. The weather is starting to warm up here in central Oklahoma this week, hopefully we can get started back on the front bumpers. |

They make the 5 and 6 hour drives feel like an hour in the old seats. I mounted the power seat switches in the tuffy console. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...529_195354.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...529_195359.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...529_195401.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...529_195408.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174125.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174129.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174131.jpg I didn’t care much for the aftermarket cold air system so I decided to go back to original FJ62 filter.. I still need to re-paint the air filter housing. BEFORE http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...e/P7270399.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...e/P7270400.jpg AFTER http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174041.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174044.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174050.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174056.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174102.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174109.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...530_174111.jpg Started on a rear storage box, to keep all of my gear in. I came real close to purchasing either ARB or Tuffy boxes, but at $1000+ I thought I would see what I could do. I used glue and pocket screws to put the frame together. It really turned out much stronger than I thought it would. Very pleased with it.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135346.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135349.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135354.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135356.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135358.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...607_135404.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_173246.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_173251.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_173253.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_173258.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_173303.jpg Since it is supposed to rain AGAIN this weekend I hope to get started on building the drawers. I have already ordered and received 2 very nice sets of 36” HD drawer slides. I will post pictures when I get them. It has been for a little over 10 months since I first drove the LC with the L33 in it. I have really enjoyed it. I have put over 23000 miles on it, and look forward to putting many, many more on it. |

Mirror glass replacement – Recently the driver’s side mirror glass fell out of the mirror and broke. Ordered one off of ebay, perfect match to the original as far as I can tell. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_182318.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...608_182331.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_165754.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_170045.jpg Rear storage cabinet-- Drawers Used a straight edge to keep the cuts straight, worked well. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...612_192901.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...612_192907.jpg Drawers http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...612_200620.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...612_200624.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...612_200627.jpg Completed http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195602.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195606.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195614.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195631.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195634.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...613_195638.jpg Replace the rear side panels… This allowed me to install cleats to support the outer floor pieces. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...614_140720.jpg Paint http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...614_173952.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...614_173956.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...614_173959.jpg Rear tie down – I also bolted the front down utilize the bolt holes that held the rear tie downs in. Update – 06/30/15
More progress on the rear storage drawers. I wanted to but some carpet or something on top of the box to keep down the noise and to prevent things from sliding around, but really wanted something I could spray off if it got dirty. I decided to use this Utility Mat from Lowes. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_195808.jpg Cut and fit to size.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_193002.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_193005.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_193010.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_195742.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_195746.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_195750.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...618_195756.jpg Worked great.. I hope it holds up as well as it looks Next project was to integrate a Power Inverter into the storage system. I didn’t need anything to large so I went with a 1500W/3000W unit. This unit can power my circular and jig saws, soldering iron, drop light, margarita maker, etc… I am pleased with how it turned out.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_131809.jpg It will fit in this space… http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_131815.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_142927.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_142930.jpg Overhead view http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_142937.jpg Powered up http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_171702.jpg Power Cables and grounding http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_171709.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...619_171714.jpg Installed new speakers in the storage system. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_150557.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_150602.jpg All Done.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_150607.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_150612.jpg Rear ARB install – Thought it was time to make sure the power from the 5.3 made to where it was supposed to… Tear Down.. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145055.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145059.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145108.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145122.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145140.jpg Old… http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145150.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145154.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145159.jpg New http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145205.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145211.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...626_145218.jpg Back together… http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...629_203032.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...629_203038.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...629_203049.jpg Rocker Switches for the compressor and the rear locker. I also went ahead and cut the front locker spot as well.. I hope to get it done in the next few months. The tuffy console doesn’t look as scratched in person as it does in the pictures.. But when I tear everything down this winter, I will have it powder coated. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...629_203104.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...629_203109.jpg ARB compressor mounting.. Right next to the invertor… http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_151042.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_151056.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...627_151105.jpg I think that brings me up-to-date.. Ordered a small under the seat powered 8” subwoofer and a 4 channel amp for the stereo system. I have AC, but really enjoy driving with the windows down, problem is I cannot hear the radio as loud as I would like when I am driving down the interstate at 80mph.. Hopefully those new items will help.. Happy 4th of July to everyone… and be safe! |
