It looks outstanding. If it was mine it would get white wheels if it was getting stock style. But I would probably get polished aluminum anyway.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Here are some more pics of progress as of today. Things are coming along quite nicely and quickly. Note to self - never ever take clearance light harness out of truck. Took me almost three hours to feed it back through.
Also regarding the clearance lights, if you guys have not been able to figure it out yet the only thing chinese I like is food. I go down to my local Chevy dealership to order the base gaskets and lens, mine are fine but I like new, they had three in stock, I ordered 7 more because I have two trucks with clearance lights. Got home only to find that the base gaskets that I bought at the Chevy dealership were made in China. Needless to say I was incredibly disappointed. They will have to do for now until I can find an NOS. The lens that I ordered are suppose to be made in the US of A I told them that if they came back and did not say made in the USA that I would not buy them at $18.00 a piece. Oh by the way the interior of my truck is so cool and comfortable. I had 6 emblems made that say "crewcab" so I will be putting the custom crewcab emblem on my glovebox. Have not picked them up but have seen them, they look very authentic. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...15766680_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...97464332_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...23453951_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...92376623_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...98551475_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...72601125_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...17455908_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...01670410_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...66952759_n.jpg |

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Finished repairing the rust in the bed today. Sprayed the inside of the bed with zero rust in preparation for the color matched spray in liner. Reinstalled bed on truck. I don't think the chrome will be as big of a deal as I originally thought. (Getting closer every day)

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
I have been very fortunate on putting together the front of this truck, have not needed many shims or adjustments. I'm pretty happy with the way this truck has turned out.
I'm waiting for the chrome to finish up and put in the fender wells. Looks like fender wells will be the last thing in. I have my steel wheels painted, hubcabs need to be restored and I'm going to buy new beauty rings from Mar-k. Still need to strip and paint the tailgate and spray in the bedliner. Can't wait to get started on the next three cabs. After this build they will be a cake walk. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...05010977_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...85068608_n.jpg |

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
ATVPRO,
This build is awesome. It's coming out better than I expected. I have a '70 LWB myself, and getting ready to sand the floor of the cab. I was wondering if you could tell me what products you used to seal/rust prevent/sound deadener? Any help would be appreciated? Thank you |

Love the build and pickup, im really thinking of building me one. Love how your making it look close as possible to factory show room. You should go with some 186 Eagle Alloy wheels they keep the classic but u get the new chrome look.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
I've seen it in person and these pictures don't do it justice. This truck is amazing. I wish I had the patience to do a job like this. The attention to detail is way beyond anything I could do. I'm so looking forward to the final result.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
The last couple of days I decided to go ahead and swap out axles. Of course you know its not that simple. I robbed some 1 ton springs off of a longhorn and installed those. I put the axle in, decided to look at the brakes (though I was told they were new) I had to check them. Yes they were fairly new however they were bonded and not riveted. "Let the games begin" by the time I bolted on the rear wheels, I had replaced all the brakes and brake components, rebuilt the cyclinders, replaced the hub seals, drained dip fluid and inspected, everything inside was perfect, looked as new as the truck.
Today I swapped out the front axle that I have been restoring for the last couple of weeks on the bench. (Oh in case you are wondering the reason for all of this I had 411 and I wanted 373.) Finished that up. I am going to go ahead and replace the forward joint on the steering link. Still trying to decide what I want to do for shocks on this truck, I love the bilstein 5150s, had them on my landcruiser and they were awesome. However they would not look OE so I am going to try and find a set of heavy duty steel dust shield type of shocks and they will be silver. I put the tailgate on the stand today getting ready to paint it, the thing is perfect all I need to do is prep for paint. Thats it for the crewcab. Now. You will notice I put a couple pictures of a longhorn that I have as if I did not have enough irons in the fire this is going to be a 1 ton 4wd crewcab 12 valve cummins diesel dually with an 8" lift - "thanks alot ryan". https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...56326988_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...28224652_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...68986741_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...60439689_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...15822062_n.jpg |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Great build, I love the two tone!
And I cant wait for the CC longhorn 12 valve! |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Amazing work man!! Beautiful results.
You are (or will be) very glad you spent the time installing your door handles the way you did. The float-the-boat gaskets that you used initially will begin to crack in less than a month. The only ones that don't are the NOS GM pieces, but they are running about $40.00 a door now. But, even with the superior OE quality of the gasket, it still is not as clean as your method. Nice job!! Great attention to detail!! |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
All I can say is "wow"..........beyond impressed my friend. Keep up the great work, I can only imagine what kind of work went into the cab and rear doors. Nice to see someone going overboard on a build...love it!

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Very nice truck. Is that a modified truck roof. Most burb roofs are higher and ribbed for her pleasure.
I wonder if there is enough interest or people who would want parts to make a 4 door truck or modify there burb into a 4 door. Could get some parts formed by a press to sell. I would love to have one! |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Well I looked on-line to see what a new set of emblems would cost, roughly $75.00 for a set with no insurance of any kind of quality and undoubtedly less quality of chroming. I decided to restore my own emblems. Looks like it will take me about an hour each and some kind of special tool that won't scratch my eyeballs when I have to pop them back in. So once again I say "it’s all in the details".
For those of you that have been following this build thread from the beginning you have probably picked up that I don't like aftermarket anything so whenever I can restore something I do. I did buy something aftermarket that I was actually impressed with more so than the original part, it was my dash pad. Seems to be some kind of solid molded material, only time will tell. That is all for now. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...78821535_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...62513708_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...16153164_n.jpg |
