So here's what it looks like mounted on the arm with the kit. When installed in the car, all it does it "ride along" with the pedal. There is nothing to activate it. I had it all set up, tried it backward, forward, anyway to make it work but the brake lights never came on.

Re: 1965 Ford Mustang

I don't get how it looks "activated" in this pic. If I installed it right, all it does is ride along with the pedal, the part that moves is the shaft conneted to the booster. I installed it JUST LIKE THIS and had no brake lights. All the brake light switch did was swing back and forth with the pedal.

Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
So back to this. I removed the crap from under my dash. See how it's shaped like the original one? I removed it from the back of the booster, mounted the booster and it lined up really really well after adjusting the height of the booster under the hood.
...and guess what? I HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS! They come on with just about 1/4" of travel from the pedal, damn near perfect. I also checked pedal movement and everything looked free and smooth. So I feel really bad NPD tried so hard to help and I didn't need it at all? I don't get it. I have read Ford used different brake pedals for manual/auto and even disc/drum so maybe being a factory disc car (somewhat uncommon for 65) my car didn't need the bracket... I just don't know. I wasted SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TIME screwing with it. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...1&d=1392577747 |

So, another weekend... no car. Damn it.
At least I'm kinda close now. The bracket is locked down. The top two booster bolts are tight. I can get the bottom inside one from underneath... no friggin' clue how I'm going to get the bottom one near the inner fender. Fun. So with that and a sore back, I called it a weekend. I did throw the MC on to see how it all looked together. |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
I keep looking for updates and missing them. I'm caught up now and subscribing so I don't miss the next one.

I enjoyed the challenge of making the lines, but it was way too time consuming. |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
well i dont have to do all that. No booster just a new dual MC but the prop valve is where im worried. Since I have to cut and flare. Never done it and not sure about it
|
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
I got the eastwood flaring tool for sale on ebay (through eastwoods store) for ~$200 and free shipping. I was sick of using the crappy tools. In addition to the Mustang lines (I still have to make two more for the back) I'll be redoing the fuel lines for my 67, and possibly some brake lines, and I will make all the brake and fuel lines for my 67 Firebird when it's time. So, it's extremely expensive, but it was worth it for me.
I almost wish I had stuck with non power, would have been a lot easier. The brakes weren't all that hard to push manual anyway. I have also mislocated this $42 little booger... I'm NOT buying another one. Going to be fun tearing garage apart. http://d2zl5tj7gmc4tr.cloudfront.net...ts/9a474-5.jpg |

Awwwwwww. Hartwell is OK. I prefer Keowee. I've been on pretty much every large lake in this area. I used to have a lot of fun on the lakes until my boat blew up in like '09. It was a gift from inlaws when they got a new boat (it was their old one). Cars are more important to me so I sold the boat for $800 with a blown motor (it was a 1996 or so 18' bayliner.)

Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
SHE LEFT THE GARAGE TODAY! WOHOO! I went for a 5mph drive around the block
Then she got a MUCH needed bath! I don't have the shocks hooked up (can't buy any damn parts off the shelf anymore, even had to order the KYB shocks!) which also means no support braces, AND I STILL couldn't find that stupid $42 part posted above to hook up the booster. I even "put it where I would find it"... and 3 months later... where the heck is it? |

How do you remember that stuff? I still laugh about that. I recently found a socket (one of mine) in the front PS fender cup of my C10. Probably been there 3 or 4 years.
I've been cleaning out/up the garage the past few days... still nothing... :( I did find a brand new distributor I bought and forgot about  |

I did order a custom TMI interior for the car on Friday :metal: Going with a matching dark blue and white pony style interior with TMI's extra bolstered sport seats and headrests. Will also have matching dark blue and white door panels. Pony interiors were only originally the light blue and white combo. I tried to fit my Taurus fan to the car last nigh. NO EFFIN WAY. "Too fat". There is only 3.75" of clearance from the radiator face to the nose of the water pump. After HOURS or internet searching, no OEM fan will fit the 17" radiator (mostly due to the less than 4" depth). So I ordered a larger fan shroud, overflow, and going to try some water wetter to keep it cool this summer. If that fails again (like having to keep the A/C off in traffic, although with all the timing tweeks I made, I think I got it into check by the end of summer, but it was never much above 85-90* outside after that time) I will be cutting the damn core support, installing a 24" radiator and ford contour fans (pulls air like Taurus, but is much thinner and uses two fans instead of one.) |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang

The Taurus fan was a little too thick for my wife's Camaro. I was able to cut the entire front of the housing down to get to clear in her situation. IIRC I cut about 3/4" off of it.
|
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
I spent a couple hours doing the same thing last night. The best I could get it was to where it was just barely rubbing the WP pulley and it's cut down so the nose of the fan is almost on the radiator. It's just not going to fit. My radiator is only 17" wide by 16.5" top to bottom (fin area). The contour fan would fit width - wise, but being a dual fan, I don't think I could cut it up and make it work properly, plus it's only a single speed fan, I would need both.
I love the Taurus fans. I used one on my 99 S10 back in the day. I had it completely hidden within the factory shroud. |

Good day/Bad day.
Good day is that I FOUND THAT STUPID PART! It was in my Z71's center console, I must have planned to bring it in to buy hoses for it. Bad news... I put a damn hole in my radiator. So, I had an idea yesterday to slot the core support, put the radiator behind it, then I saw a pic of it done today! I've tried like hell to do things that "look" factory, but I'm to the point I don't give a crap anymore. No more doing things 3 times. Oh, I also couldn't just install that part, I had to remove the pedal rod bracket. I swear you can't work on anything on these cars without taking 2 other parts off. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psaa181ff7.jpg |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
Glad you found you part. I was going to offer to help look for it when I 'm in Greenville, but I would just end up drooling on the 67 and the 65.

Re: 1965 Ford Mustang

Me too. Kinda pissed about the radiator. I could have it fixed, but the overall system isn't cooling the car enough as it is, time for an upgrade.
67 isn't much to look at anymore. It's pics come out overly flattering. Driver condition at best. Be lucky to get 4-5 grand if I put it up on craigslist. Wouldn't take 20K for it though, it's been my baby the past 18 years. The 65 I wouldn't take less than 17K for, and it's not even worth that (damn fastbacks are the ones that demand $, that's how I got it so cheap)! It's just as pretty in person as she is in her pics, if not a little better, so I'd have to get a stupid offer of 17 or 18K for it to even think about it. I bought this monster last night. 4 row. Only have a 2-1/4" 3 row now. This one is a 3-1/4" 4 row. After some measuring, I may have to slot the core support just to reuse my clutch fan. That may solve another issue too... I think there is too much space (~1.5") between the radiator and condenser. If they're closer together the pull through both should be more efficient. That could also be part of the overheating A/C issue. |

ADD struck again.
I've been reading about how to "de stink" my car. It's not bad, but does have an exhaust smell every now and again. I COMPLETELY sealed the floor and firewall when I did the dynamat thing, so that was out, then I was reading about how the fuel tank should be sealed with strip caulk... and rust poking out around the fuel tank always bothered me. So I took it out. Most people don't know (and to be honest, I didn't either) that the fuel tank IS the trunk floor. This car is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO rusty  That's the original Ford Sheet Metal. Floor, quarters, and all are all Ford with Zero patches except for one on the PS floor pan I found. Oh, and guess what I didn't find? That's right. Any kind of sealant. |

30 minutes of clean up with a wire wheel. Then a couple coats of rust encapsulator.
|
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
1 Attachment(s)
I've been using encapsulator for years, and I keep having to relearn the same lessons over and over.
1. WEAR GLOVES YOU IDIOT. EVERY TIME. I say I'm going to, and I never do. My hands still look like a spotted cow. 2. It dries very quickly, unless the sun is going down in an hour and you put on the 2nd coat before the 1st one dries enough, then it takes FOREVER to dry! 3. It goes right through jeans. See Lesson #1. Anyway, I wire wheeled and encapsulated the mounting flange on the tank, then when that was dry (because I waited for the 1st coat to dry first!) I was able to shoot it with a fresh coat of bedliner. |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
1 Attachment(s)
The encapsulator wasn't dry, and I wasn't going to put the strip caulk down until it was...
So, for the first time in the two years I've owned her, she had to sleep outside. I wasn't about to push her heavy ass in the garage. Bump that. Tomorrow is another day... or is it... 'cause not only am I a Lysdexic DDA, I'm positive I have insomnia as well, so technically, tomorrow is already today, and the past is present and the future is now... and oh no, I've gone cross eyed... |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
yeah man..My trunk was a mess!!! I knew it was the floor though :) You could always build a kit to go voer the tank. Alot of people use MDF and such so they can clean it up and cover it with carpet. Making the whole space usable for like storage etc. Seal the MDF and that might help the smell
|
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
3 Attachment(s)
I don't like putting anything in the trunk. Scared it's gonna roll around and put a dent in the quarter from the inside.
I got the tank sealed up today! I put a double layer of strip caulk down. Should be no more exhaust smell. I forgot to take a pic, just pretend you see strip caulk down. I had some leftover dynamat so I added some to reduce the tinney sound. I also put on a new fuel filler neck hose to replace the one that crumbled in my hands (and down into the damn tank, so I had to clean it out). |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
1 Attachment(s)
I used a double seal on the filler neck as recommended by mustang peeps to make it easier to close the cap with the wire rope thing attached. It is easier.
I also rotated it as far as possible so the cap is now much straighter when fully tight. It used to be pretty crooked to the right when tight. |

So... about this pic...
Good news. I finished rolling ALL the fenders! WOHOO! (See that fat tire in the bottom of the pic... last one to go on the car!) With ZERO paint damage outside of the fender lips. Bad news is I jacked up all the fender lips  It's ok though, as I mentioned before, they get cleaned up, feathered in, epoxied, and painted black with trim over top. So, somehow, even though I covered the entire fender, 1/3 of the door, and sprayed in my windless garage...black paint speckles got all over my PS door. It took a few hours with a clay bar and bug and tar remover to get it all off. So I covered the whole car this time. |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang

Epoxy shots. I got the black on before it got dark and got her tucked away into the garage for the night. Big rain storm coming all day tomorrow.
The green helps the roll stand out... If these tires rub now... I also have new shocks, and new front upper and lower control arms. I'll be ordering the rest of the crap to rebuild the front suspension on Friday when my bank account recovers from all the crap I've had to buy for it. This should be the last $ round of crap she needs. |
Re: 1965 Ford Mustang
nice. Keep it up

What I want to get done before Charlotte (50Th Anniversary show): Finish painting DS fender lips, install trim. Rebuild front suspension. Install new radiator/shroud/overflow bottle. Repaint dash. This needs to be done so I can finish installing all of the gauges and V/A vents... they're all just hanging down right now. I don't think I'll get to the TMI seat install. |

I don't think I ever posted this, but I installed a new reproduction door tag to replace the missing original. I researched the VIN and used all the info I know about the car, this should be 100% accurate.

Re: 1965 Ford Mustang

I really miss driving my car... so after work I had to try to fit the new big azz radiator.
I believe this to be one of the main problems with the car. The vintage air condenser is too far away from the radiator creating turbulence and lack of suction through the grille, hence, traffic overheating... The old radiator mounts to the tab sticking out leaving +/- 1" of separation between the radiator and condenser. 2nd pic shows the gap as well. 3rd pic is how huge the V/A condenser is. Did V/A forget how tiny the 65-65 radiators were? this thing is LARGER surface area wise than the radiator. The factory A/C condenser mounted on a bracket and fit inside the opening so it was snug up against the radiator. This one is not because it's bigger than the opening... |
