Nothing special on the Saturn. Remove blown engine out of blue car and replace with good engine out of gold car. Strip every usable part off of gold car for spares and scrap what is left.

You're from PA, correct? Would one of the cars happen to have a good catalytic converter? Mine just went out on my Saturn.

I have both cats off of the donor car. Let me know if you want to meet up. We are about 2 hours away from each other.

I actually spent a little time on the truck today finally. I ran out of mig wire so i didn't get nearly as much done as i wanted. I started by finally making a shelf for my HF tool cart so i can hang the welder off the side instead of underneath.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...008_185010.jpg

Since I didn't have much wire I only got the one filler piece welded in for the rear rocker.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...008_185028.jpg

I then spent an hour or two grinding down welds from the last time i did some work. The rockers are ready for body work with the exception of the last filler piece around the B pillar.

Thanks guys. I just wish I had more done. Too many projects keep getting in the way. I cooked at the dirt track race last weekend and of course didn't make nearly as much money as I wanted to. I have to help one of my kids put a clutch in his Jeep tomorrow night. Then I can get back to the truck.

This is a pretty bad picture, but a really cool truck.

We had a really cool old race car parked beside the tent.

I drug home another project over the weekend. This one cost me $0...so far. I have some rust issues to deal with on the tongue ans some crappy welds to clean up and reinforce. Then I have to cut the I beams off the floor and put a proper deck on it. It will serve my needs after a little TLC.

Sorry to hear about not making as much as you'd like to. It seems to go that way a lot and makes it rough. Nice free new project though! That is a sweet wedge back too!

I like the free part of the project. Are you planning on mounting your smoker to it?

I started my BBQ business to make money, but unfortunately I am only losing so far. I have some catering events coming up so at least I know I am making money there. This point of sale stuff was supposed to get me some quick cash, but it at least got me a lot of visibility. I handed out a lot of cards so it may lead to future catering business.

This trailer is to haul around the Jeep and whatever else brakes in our stable of vehicles and needs drug home. I am going to buy an old camper to mount the smoker on. That way I can cut off the back half for the smoker and have the front half for my kitchen. I have a couple lined up...I just don't have the cash just yet.

Ha! Once our California canyon house sells, we're moving to Oregon (somewhere outside of Portland) and specifically looking for property with a shop. Hopefully we'll find a similar "flaw" and get a good price.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I got the trailer stripped of the rotted floor boards and I beams for where the tires go. The guy who originall built the trailer did some decent welds, but the last guy who modified it needs his welder taken away. Most of his welds were chiseled off. I need to get me some diamond plate and build me some proper floors.

I even got back to work on the truck. I finished modifying the rocker for the rear door and patched the last piece of floor behind the B pillar. I just need to burn in the cab corner and start body work.

And, cab corner welded in. I have to knock down the welds, but I had a productive day. I even carved pumpkins with the kids.

Well, Another weekend with no work on the truck. We did get my son's Sousaphone finished up and ready for him to Play at Pearl Harbor next month. Now we need to build a new case for it so it fits on the plane.

How did your cut driveshatft work out? Did you drive it far enough to notice any vibrations? Did you balance it yourself?

No idea yet. I still have some work to do before I drive it. I paid attention to the orientation of the yokes and made sure my cut was square. The yoke has a nice deep necked down area to align the yoke to the tube. It should be pretty good.

I finally got all my welds ground down and seam sealed all the welds on the floor and basically everywhere inside the cab. Hopefully this weekend i can get all the body work done on the rockers and corner.

Um....I'm going to do both. Right now I need to get it together and functional. Things will get repaired and rattle canned. My fenders are nice on the outside, but some of the inner structure is bad. My doors are pretty bad on the bottoms as well. Before I paint it I want to get some better doors and fenders. Hopefully That won't take me too long, but with my lack of both time and money who knows. Once I have all good panels it will get a nice custom paint job. I am still kicking around ideas for that. Right now I am thinking a white and grey two tone with a bright orange separation line between the colors.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I finally finished my rendering showing all the custom things I want to build for the truck. I am building the bumpers, making some sort of custom grill, and making a custom hood. The rendering also will be my final paint scheme.

I picked up another hood to start building my newer HD inspired hood for my favorite price...free. It had a little dent in the middle with some old bondo that was chipping off. I ended up cutting the bad section out anyway so that is not an issue.

I took off all the paint to see how the hood was overall and aside from a couple small dings it is pretty good. It is hard to see, but I laid out some lines on where the different levels are going to end up.

I am following the angle of the outer body line on the hood for all of the steps and will be raising the center 4" overall and the first step 2"...I think. I will mock things up to see how it looks before I make the side panels. I at least got the center piece cut out. I cut 10" out of the center of that to shorten it up front to back. This will create the opening for the ram air.

The center is sitting on a couple 2x4's in the pic. Again, I am not sure on the overall height yet.

Does anyone have any experience with ram air? I am wondering about driving in the rain. Is there typically anything done to prevent the water from getting to the air cleaner?

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I used to have a Cervinni's ram air hood on my 97 powerstroke. The very first bad rain I drove it in after I got all the ram air functional, nearly hydro locked the engine. I ended up drilling drain holes in the ducts I had built. That wasn't enough, I had to angle the "floor" of the ducts toward the drain holes and that helped. That still wasn't enough and I had to put some screen over the duct. I used some from a lund grill I took off a wrecked truck. All of that finally kept it happy.
