Nope, I have the outer roof skin off, so I am able to weld from the top and hammer and dolly as well.

Nice!

Great work! The inner roof will look sweet when it's done!

Been warm so I am trying to enjoy it while it lasts. Close to having one side done to tie in the inner roof. It sure is stout now. Going to be 1 big headliner. Going to need a few sets of trim.

Great pictures, I plan on referring to them when I tackle the 4th door.

Finally had a day to work on it. Got my inner skin almost all welded up and started to mock up my outer roof skin. I'll still need to grind my inner welds down and run my wiring for the clearance lights and compass map light rear view from my 03 donor before welding it in.

Thanks Ryan, been a lot of work. I'm trying some newer ideas for roofs and been dialing in body lines along the way. I'll get the roof done and dial in the rear doors. Trevor

Ryan, I feel like the little kid when talking thicker type welding. I'd say you'd be fine lol.

Not a whole lot of progress, but pretty close to rough sitting the cab on its new frame. She at least rolls now.

Making progress- will be exciting to see the cab on the chassis. What is the wheelbase? Keep up the good work!

71blksuper4x4 02-21-2015 08:32 PM

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Wheelbase will be around 148- 148.5" when setup. I haven't shortened or modified the frame yet. It is still longer than needed.

71blksuper4x4 02-22-2015 10:59 AM

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Right now the truck has around a 168" wheelbase as the p.o. moved the 157" wheelbase back on the frame. I am going to bolt my 4x4 perches on and set the wheelbase when I do. Trevor

Thanks Ryan, Everything from here on out will be rough fitting to get my proportions and driveline figured out and then I will tear it all back down for paint. Never did a project like that and always wanted to.

Got the cab on. Cab mounts lined up. Optical illusion on the way the cab sits. I have to still put my 4x4 hangers on the rear frame to level out to the front. My frame is hanging roughly an inch lower under the rear cab mount than the front.

Wow, it's looking good Trevor! Those 157" frames are so loooong!

Incredible build you have going here! I don't usually get on the 4X4 section, that explains why I've never seen it. I love all the attention to details on the rear pillar and fourth door. All that hard work will pay off when you are cruising in this beast. I hope to have one myself someday.
Keep up the good work!

7Dee2, Thanks for the kind words. These frames are definitely long but perfect for my build. Just wish the original owners didn't change the wheelbase already, than it would be closer at least. Though, at least they didn't section the frame and rebooted the brackets further back on the rails. Its like having a 72 built duramax frame, here is the back of the dmax frame. I'm planning on using the rear spring perches from it and the longer springs for a better ride.

Thanks Mcbassin, almost hit the 1year mark. This build area doesn't see the traffic of the other build area, but am trying to do my part to keep the site organized.

Found a little time to change out the cab mount cushions to the correct 4x4 ones.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

That looks nice! Do you plan to move the front axle to where it's centered in the wheel well opening? My crew cab build keeps getting pushed back. we're looking for a house now, so who knows when it'll start. I've got the burb shell and donor cabs, just too many other things to finish before I start on it.
