This must be how it feels to take your kid to the first day of Kindergarten.

We dropped Greg's frame off at the powdercoater yesterday, it is out of our custody for the first time since we started the build.

It is called Anthracite, it is sort of a silverish grey.

With the chassis squared away we have no choice but to get started on the part I have been dreading, The body work. The floor is in pretty bad shape. We could have pieced in some replacement panels but Greg is a "No half measures" kind of guy so we will be replacing the entire floor and firewall/transmission hump. this requires us to build a framework inside the cab that will allow us to cut out the whole bottom of the cab and still be able to rotisserie it.

So Greg and I (Mostly Greg) built and installed this bolt-in arraignment.

By using the door strike and hinge mounts we can unbolt it and keep it for when we do my truck this summer. ;)

Using the door hinge bolt holes is quite ingenious, and probably perfect for keeping the cab straight and intact!

And I bet that anthracite color will look amazing on the frame. I know a lot of people go with straight black (which is a great idea for simplicity and looks,) but I think the extra touch of that color will make it that much more unique! Can't wait to see how it comes out!

We are making the big push south the day after tomorrow, I'll be sure to honk and waive as we pass through Salinas ;)

I chose the Anthracite after discussing it with Robert because it will give the frame the pop we are looking for with the other parts black and the Lapiz blue the body will be. We didn't want all of the frame mods to blend and fade in an all black undercarriage. We went by the powder shop yesterday and they haven't touched the frame which is frustrating... said they'll start on Monday.

That makes sense. Especially with all your custom framework, you want to be able to see that work.

Greg went by this morning. The powder coater has a couple coats of "primer" on and is in the process of final smoothing. Promised it to us by the end of the week. If that happens it will only be 3 weeks late.

Frame is home:metal:

Powder coating looks very good, can't be happier with the color and the finish. Just enough gloss to shine but not look soaking wet.
