Ryan, there are some things out of skew. Fender is loosely bolted on and needs to go back a hair. Only have a bolt going through where a bushing goes on my passenger side shackle is. The angle of the pic don't help either. Trevor

Yeah, the excitement of standing back and getting a first view. Someday I hope to do it too. Haha

Nice project! I like how you're using a beefy frame so you can use the truck to the haul heavy loads if needed, since the drivetrain will allow you to.

Thanks Jud, hoping to get the donor in the shop this coming week and start tearing into it. I get a free shop weekend this coming weekend and don't have to leave its site like most weekends. Trevor

Subbed for the build. Looks sick so far. Is that a short bed on the frame there? Do you plan to put a long bed on it or shorten the frame? Looks like a very high potential build and a duramax swap is a cool twist. I may have missed it but have you decided if you are going to run the Allison or another Trans with an adapter? Will you run a standalone harness or try to put the whole duramax harness in the 72?

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Tye, it is a short bed, I have to dial in the rear end on the frame with 4x4 spring hangers and won't have to splice the frame. It will retain the Allison paired up with a Cummins/Getrag np205 29 spline transfer case. I will also be doing a stand alone as I want to run the original 72 tilt column and a factory-ish gauge cluster. I don't want to run the duramax gauges.

Put in a little time on the truck between chasing leads on new projects and parts. Took a pic of the distance I am pretty much taking off the rear portion off the 157" wb frame. The yellow line is where the end of a normal cab and chassis frame ends. Also, I finally figured out what spring hangers I needed for this frame and got those cut off at a salvage yard today. I need to allign the bed still but I think I can figure that out as I move forward.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Thanks guys! I have been busy getting the patches installed around the back cab corners on that truck floor and installed a new rear cross member under it. Sandblasted the rust underneath it,just to know what was under it. I coated it with etch primer followed by another primer, than textured rock chip guard and paint. I didn't want to replace any of it in the next 15 years again. Then I went ahead and installed lower pillars and cab corners before putting in the floor, so I could grind down the welds from the inside first. The floor has another donor hump extending from the center to continue the look of the the low hump throughout the cab. Hopefully it will also give me an extra inch or two for clearance to for the transfer case if I need it. It will also act as a way to hold up the 2nd carpet kit in the center of the floor more like factory. Finally I added pieces left over from the burb floor I cut out to make the burb floor flow into the 2nd floor. So lots of work before getting to this point. I promise I'm not slacking! :)
