Looks nice!

Those wagon Wheels are so retro! I remember those wheels well. At one time I wanted those.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Yeah, my dad got those in order to convert from 16.5" to 16 " and radial tires. It's the second paint job.
My family bought it used in the late 70's with a massive cab over camper ready to go. He and my mom took my kid brother and I on a road trip from California to Iowa visiting all the stops along the way...Grand canyon, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, etc... I think we even did it again later and after that it went camping all over California. He and my mom continued using it well after us boys had grown.
The original camper was ruined one day by a distracted driver so they got a 5th wheel and later changed that to a smaller modern cab over. Eventually the camper was sold and the truck saw light duty use as a secondary vehicle. My dad is 82 now and this year we sold the truck with 76,000 original miles on the clock. The 454 still ran great and the Turbo 400 was rebuilt a bit back. I thought about keeping it but lacked the space and the thing seriously drank the gasoline compared to my little half tons. We sold it to a fellow truck enthusiast who was going to change it just enough to make it his own and enjoy it with his young family. You know.... a bittersweet goodbye to an old friend.

Here's an interior and motor shot for you. It looks so much like yours my heart skipped a beat when I saw yours in Truck of the Month. The Scottsdale is more stripped down I guess with vinyl seat, no door pockets and vinyl floor.

Heads up guys. Sweet Pea is nominated for TOTM. Head over to the voting link to give her a vote if you think she is as deserving as I do. Deadline is July 1.

Thank you so much for the nomination Jon! I am thrilled that she's getting a good amount of votes too! Win or lose I'm still always pumped when somebody gets a smile on their face because of Sweet Pea!

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Also... There's been an addition to the family recently. Just brought her home yesterday so its time for introductions.

Everyone, meet "Bourbon" She's a 1975 Chevrolet Suburban Scottsdale. 3/4 Ton, Big Block 454, AC (rear ac too) 3rd row seat beauty with 64K miles on the clock. She's finished in what appears to be a repainted coat of her original color of 61 Grecian Bronze. 5 Acres of brown plaid vinyl cover up the interior.

I bought her on Monday in Seattle, WA. Which happens to be the same former hometown as Sweet Pea, but from a different owner. I drove her nearly 1K miles home on another epic road trip and now she's a part of the fam. I'll be posting up a new build thread in the Squarebody Burb's forum, so please be sure to stop on over there and say hi!

ShortHaul,

Do you have any engine bay photos of how you routed the red wire from the battery to the cab for your amp in Sweet Pea? The way I have mine routed now goes from the battery up the passenger across the firewall to a hole low on the firewall. I think it looks janky. Can you post any pictures?

Thanks

Yeah let me go take a few pics. I pulled it from the battery up over the radiator and along the driver's side fender and in through the firewall grommet. I covered it in black split loom so it wouldn't show too much.

Finally got a spare mounted up! After waiting for an OEM bed mount for nearly a year I finally just caved and bought the kit from LMC. Install was a breeze and I'm happy with the product. Gotta tune up the hubcap but otherwise it's looking good.

Dumb questions of the day...

Would it be wrong to mount the spare like that on the passenger side?
Is there a reason not too? I was thinking it might help with the Chevy lean; driver, gas tank and spare seams like a lot one one side.

Would that mount work on a stepside?

I luv sweat pea. One of my favorite trucks on the board.

So I had the same debate, but in the end it was the blind spot that was created by having it on the passenger side that made me choose driver. It created a huge vision problem when looking over your right shoulder. Also mine has dual tanks so that’s not an issue.

And thank you for the kind words!!

I think I am going to stand a tire there and see what it looks like. I can't really turn my neck that way anyway..LOL

I have not seen one that looks like it will work with the flush step side bed though.

Swapped out the plugs the other day... Man these ones were tired! I think they may be original to the truck

She fires up a little easier, and runs smoother now.

Also did a little maintenance recently. Had a wierd, no-crank-no start situation going on for a miunte... I ended up swapping the neutral safety switch, ignition switch and starter all in one shot... Not quite sure which one was the culprit but I went ahead and did all 3 at once.
