Martins engine stand came back and now my transmission is mounted on it, awaiting its service, shifting kit and new seals.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...snue08zcl.jpeg

We also got the truck back on four wheels, new steering parts fitted, and the drop link etc refitted.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smcavufko.jpeg

One more bit of cleverness from Martins day job, which is always about checking and double checking and legal culpability Is to mark your nuts with red paint.

So I went into the house and asked Nicola for some red nail polish.......

Every nut and split pin fitted and torqued down was marked so that I can see where things have been done.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY..........!!!

Installed my opened up magnum intake and took the truck for a test run...Man does it pull good!

Robber, your fan is too deep in the shroud. It will work more efficiently if the blades are only partly covered. Nice work, though!

It's @ half in and half out and I hope it works as is - if not I'll pull it off and sand it down some in depth. Thanks

On a happier note it's in for dual exhaust and final set-up / inspection

Ok, you're good then! The angle of the pic makes it seem that the fan is all inside the shroud.

Truck is in the shop for dual exhaust and final touches.

Yesterday Dwayne got the two inch Stainless routed all the way back to the rear bumper.

I had two nifty little heat shields bent at J/T Welding and installed those.

Engine wiring is done other than hot for choke and alternator conversion to ignition.

More like this week.... Its been a good one though. Started with some wiring clean up. Wired in a couple of relays to provide full batt voltage to the starter solenoid and the HEI distributor. After 56 years, the under dash wiring is both aged and been altered some, so there's no guarantee that there isn't voltage loss through the system. Short of a complete re-wire/new wiring harness, this is the easiest way to ensure full system voltage to both of these vital parts. Also, added a 0 gauge cable from the battery to the starter, so that pretty well maxes out the available voltage.

Then added a front sway bar from a 67-72 truck to the front end, and then a pair of Bilstein shocks to top it off. The improvement to handling is night and day, and really makes the truck much more fun, and safe, to drive. Especially on the curvy roads here in the Sierra foothills.

Like I said, a good week in the life of a truck that been static for a long time.

This afternoon I got some TRUCK TIME ..........

First I pushed it out of the garage (these new wheels are great on the trolley thanks Rian)

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psgyxot8kd.jpg

The first job was to remove the old sound deadening pads

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps0ay5im1q.jpg

Wow it's amazing the difference between two cabs of the same age .

All the sound deadening pads removed

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps00uku0ek.jpg

Next job was to remove the old dash . The radio was fitted by a blind man with a chainsaw I think

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps1nezpyzi.jpg

Dash all removed

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pszdfixas5.jpg

New dash in place that I removed from my old cab

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdtqekcfh.jpg

After that job was done I filled in the gas filler hole .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psok0gojlu.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstjbldht2.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pssqumpfg4.jpg

Next job will be to fill in the hole in the transmission hump , and then remove and clean up the brackets for the gas tank .

It's great to be working back on the truck , and not a bad afternoons work .

Took the dash apart on my GMC to see why my fuel gauge wasn't working properly....guess the nuts were a bit loose as it's working good now! :metal:
Cleaned up the lenses a bit and replaced a burnt out bulb. :gmc2:

Got some minor rust issues wire brushed on the floor of my Suburban. My cowl vents were leaking, and ruined my carpet but also created some rust on the drivers side, but didn't go all the way through(whewww!) Will get a gallon of gloss black Rustoleum next week and get the floor painted just in time for our 100+ temps.

Hi all after many months of looking at a dent in my bonnet for the last year or so.
Enough is enough had to sort it.
Now time to find some inserts for my indicaters.

After seeing the dual exhaust roughed in, while Dwayne is finishing up I decided to fab some splash pans to close the gap between the rear bumper and the bed.

This was a factory thing for the 63-66 trucks but to my knowledge didn't happen till at least 63... anyway it just happened for my 62.

Bent some 24" x 6" 20 gauge tin from the builders supply into pans and drilled for mounting hardware.

Should work nicely

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Dwayne just informed me it RUNS

no knocks pings taps or leaks

Alternator light stays on once you connect the battery ??

Turn Signal indication on dash stays on ??

One back up light works the other doesn't

Front brakes locked on - thinking proportioning valve might be bad

Welding up exhaust

I got my new Champion American Eagle radiator installed. Only problem I had was the bottom of the new radiator was the same thickness as the top. The bottom of the original radiator was 1/2 inch smaller than the top tank. I found some wider brackets at the local junk yard, replaced the smaller ones and the radiator fit right in place. I also replaced a homemade looking fan guard/shroud with a new chrome one.

Don't forget your seals around the top front and the sides of the radiator and the support. Unless if there are any gaps it will let the air bypass the radiator and not cool as efficently.

I made my side seals and front top seal, but you can see about what the 3rd pciture has for a factory (if all the pieces were still on it) looks like. It makes a tremdous difference on cooling ability, especially on the highway or if you have AC.
