1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
Has anyone removed the rear drum brakes and installed disc brakes? What kit did you use and any other info will help! Would like to install disc on the back of mine.

Re: 1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
There may be a few more but....here's a few considerations:
Unless you're going with bigger tires and more mods...spend the money on something else....the front disc brakes do 80% of the stopping......stock or near stock...drums are fine...but: If you use the stock axle with a kit, You will have to address e-brake if you want one...... if you swap in a later model with the disc and e-brake already on it....it may not clear the factory wheels... |

Why not?

Re: 1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
LMC has a kit that will fit 15" wheels and has the e-brake cables! Has anyone used it?

Re: 1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
I used a kit from Wilwood, and they clear my 10x15” torque Thrusts, and they come with an emergency brake.

The only advantage I could see is that it might look better if you have aftermarket rims. |

Re: 1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
I used CPP Big Brake Kit and they work great (even with 11 inches of vacuum)! The kit comes very complete with parking brake cables and hoses. I would buy again. The only problem I found was the fit of their rotors on the axles, I had to make 0.015" shims to center rotor on axle. I also have a set of Captain Fab brackets unused if anyone is interested.

At some point in my blazer's life someone swapped in an old 14 bolt. I was redoing the whole brake system and decided I wanted rear discs but also wanted to have the drum in hat parking brake... So i replaced the axle flanges for the drum brakes with ones I had machined to mount late model discs on. I used the brackets, calipers and rotors from a lated model dually. Had to turn down the hubs to get the rotors to slide on. Probably would have been easier just to swap axles.

Grab a late model Tahoe/Yukon/Sierra/Silverado 6 lug disc brake rear off craigslist. Remove all brackets and weld on some DIY4X spring perches. Parts available at any auto parts store... price range $250-$450

Re: 1972 Blazer Rear Disc Brakes
If you want to part it together yourself you can use the rear calipers off a 77 Eldorado, they have a built in parking brake.

Do not back up with the parking brake on if you do the drum in hat axle (don't ask me how I know!).
