Newbie with a 65 Chevy

I am in the process of building a 65 from the ground up. I am new at this so I will have a lot of questions. I bought a wrecked 2000 Silverado with a 5.3 and 4l60e to put in it. I will try to post some pics.

I was installing 5.3 and trans to test fit and had problems. I got adapter plates for stock mount location but when I was putting it in found out I have 6 cylinder perches. Waiting on v8 perches now. My next install will be fuel tank. What tank is everyone using? I want to mount it in rear between frame.

Welcome. For your first build thread, those first 3 pics have to be the best yet!

I haven't swapped mine yet, but if you look in the FAQ section near the top of the page, you will find tank options. Also use the search window on the right side of the page... " tank " should bring up a ton of info, good luck

You can also use tube pearch mounts, from CPP. Good product, thats what we used on our 61 with a 1st gen 350.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am sure I will have a lot of questions. I had to take the week off for my new grand baby. This is my first so I might not have any new updates for a week or two. Trying to soak her all in while I can. But I will keep yall updated on the build.

I stopped by Mr Bryds and picked up my v8 motor perches on my way to Dallas to see my grand baby. He has a shop at bald knob with lots of parts mostly for 67-72. Maybe I will have more up dates next week.

I have been looking at a new fuel tank from Boyd's. They are running a special over the holidays until Dec 2 10% off and free shipping. What does everyone think of that tank?

Re: Newbie with a 65 Chevy

Mine came in last week, if I would have waited I would have saved about 70 bucks. It's a beautiful tank tho

Re: Newbie with a 65 Chevy

Man that's a good looking tank! Are you using a carb or fuel injection on your truck?

Mack B 11-30-2013 12:40 AM

Re: Newbie with a 65 Chevy

Mines carbureted, ill let you know how the fit goes, but you are more likely to finish before me :D

I have not got a lot done on the truck. I did modify my new v8 mounts. I cut the humps out and welded them back on the bottom to make clearence for the exhaust. I also modified my transmission cross member. I will post some pics later. I forgot to take pics of them. Here is some pics of my last project. My wife has claimed it. I just finished it this summer. This is before.

I got some pics of my motor perches that I modified and the transmission crossmember. I got the idea from Matt here on the forum.

The one on the left is the v8 and the right is 6 cylinder. I had already modified the v8 before I took pic. I just cut the hump off and welded it back in underneath. It gives more clearence for the exhaust manifolds.

dwcardfan 12-08-2013 09:37 PM

Re: Newbie with a 65 Chevy

Here is crossmember. I notched the member and welded angle back in for support. Now I will mock it up and drill hole for trans mount.

Thanks Don. I am using 4l60e. I have been watching your build it's looking good. Maybe before long I can stop by searcy and see it.

I got the motor and transmission mounted. Everything fit like a glove. :) don't know if I have the correct angle on my drive shaft. Does anybody have a good way of determining the angle?

I thought I would share some pics of my donor truck before I removed any parts. I hate to use it for that because it's in good shape but it does not have a title.
