I saw this on the garage journal thread of awesome. I haven't cared much for the new body on gm trucks but I think this makes it more appealing.

The wagon wheels really make it happen. My buddy rushed into my office to show me this yesterday. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I agree, that is a really good looking truck. I didn't like this generation when it first came out, but the more I look at it the more I like it, especially with the two tone stripe. There are subtle cues on this truck that throw back to the 73-87 trucks.

I like the current generation truck it does have similarity to the 81+ trucks especially before the facelift in 2016. But who can afford these anymore?

Sorry, that's just wrong, doesn't belong on that truck.

I don't under stand this. What part of that truck is a square. Doesn't look like it belongs here to me. I don't like that truck it is not a square and in 5 years that truck will be worth half as much and my '82 square will be worth twice as much.

Like it or not, plan on seeing more of it. The web has exploded with these pics and the dealership has been inundated with demand for info. They plan to offer it with color choice options.

Re: how to make a new truck into a square

It's funny, I was just thinking that the current rigs grab some styling cues from the squares. And that it was cool. Plus, the 2nd tone center panel was available for multiple generations (including '88-'98), so why shouldn't it resurface? I'd wish to have the opportunity to give some input on how to execute the color panels since it could tie-in much better than the pictured example and look much less "stickery". That said, it's not an insurrection.

I actually like it. Gives the truck some personality and definitely will stand out. New trucks all look the same

Re: how to make a new truck into a square

While I would never buy one it’s not that bad but I think it needs some work on placement of the white and the trim decals mainly to the top or the tail light but that’s just me it’s nice to see something different when looking at newer trucks.

It gives the K2XX chassis some inexpensive sorely missing style.
Some of you may not like it but I think it looks pretty good. I agree we'll probably see more of it especially after 2019 when the K2XX platform rides into the sunset.

It's a trend. The new Camaro with body line cues to look like the late 60's Gen 1 F-bodies or the Mustang bodies looking similar to the 60's pony cars or the new Challenger looking similar to the early 70's E-Body Challenger and Barracudas.

I like it . with proper research any truck guy could build a retro look to suit their needs .

I have a real square Suburban and would love to do the woodgrain in the centre

or I could decorate to taste like my Texas theme 2001

I ran a tire shop in the 70's 80's 90's . I worked on hundreds of squares . Most tu tone . I remember driving to Mitchell Ont. with a friend to pick up a new (first one around)73 GMC
We used to sell 10-15 General grabbers on 15x8 white spoke and I used to hack saw the corners of the new fenders so they would turn lol :waah:

I love the new square GM's but the tu tone would be sweet ! (2 cents)

GMC . made a lot of special trucks

One of the local dealers does this once in a while. The wider center strip makes me think more of a GMT400 than a squarebody, but the same idea.

The parts manager there ordered a new 2017 GMC regular cab shortbox and was going to get their vinyl guys to recreate the Street Coupe stripes for it, but he ended up not doing it. I wish he had though.

Have to agree here. Looks tacked on to me. I think the problem is, that truck is not one of the many late model vehicles that was designed to look retro. So therefore trying to make it look retro doesn't really pan out. Plus its not a single cab, so that works against it as well. Waste of money imo

The Big 3 (which ever are the 3 now) need to do something to increase sales. There all behind on there numbers. Here in N. Fl. you don't see as many new vehicles, mainly trucks on the roads. As you once did, the turn over isn't there.
I have kept in touch with all my dealership contacts, and talk with them regularly. And over all sales numbers are down across the board. Some area's better than others. As stated above the cost of a new truck takes most would be buyers out of the equation.

The new Big Ten 10 will take a while to grow on me.

I'm sure they cost more than I payed for my New Lincoln Hybrid. That's why I got a old square body. They just look to BIG, my wife couldn't even climb into it...lol

I think your missing the point. And, in 5 years his half as much will still be 5 times more than your twice as much.

And some people assume way too much....

I've priced new trucks. No thanks. I know @ least 2 guys @ my job that pay almost $1K a month between the truck payment + insurance. I can see it if you're using it for work. But when it sits beside my paid for CC dually (or my paid for CC 99) for 8hrs a day, there's no way me or Akart would be on the losing end of that financial scale.

That's an easy $50k truck on the lot. Once it makes it to your driveway, it's a $35k truck. Drive it & the value only goes down.

I plan to do a rcsb 2wd lowered. Similar to this. Hoping to snag an orange one I found online to have it match my 80.

Re: how to make a new truck into a square

I have an old truck that looks like an old truck, if I bought a new truck I want it to look like a new truck, not a new truck trying to look like an old truck.

The tailgate and around the taillights is horrible, what little bit of OCD i have left is working overtime on that area, and also on the BIG 10-Cheyenne Super combination. This bodystyle doesn't really lend itself well to the square paint scheme imo.

Now on the other hand, the retro Desert Fox scheme on the new GMC that Low Sierra Company did on a customers truck in Dubai, looks great.

I think they did a great job on the tailgate

Re: how to make a new truck into a square

Love the idea, but it doesn't work. The sides are too sculpted, and it's hard to make it flow naturally. The tailgate above is nicely executed, but the position is too low. The white painted portion should align with the top and bottom of the taillights.

That being said, I do see similarities between my K2x 2500 and my 78:
