Saddle up 66 c10

5 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, i'm 16 years old and this is my first build. I acquired the truck in the past summer after looking at c10 trucks since I was 12 or 13. The truck is a 66 c10 SWB BBW. For some reason the 60's body style has always been my favorite. The plan is to do a frame off restore with the help of my dad and brother, I plan on using the the original colors which are saddle and white, I plan on doing all the paint and body myself. Not sure if if I want to go with and ls platform or the lt/350 style engine yet but I do know I want to put a 5-speed or 6-speed manual. here are a few pictures of my truck and the progress that I have made so far.

Welcome to the forum :D

It's great to see another '60-'66 truck owner from the younger generation! That looks like a really nice truck as it is.

It is mostly original from what I can tell, inline six (250) mated to a 3 on a tree. The truck came with factory a/c but the previous owner took all of the a/c out, other than that its just a regular old '66 chevy, check out this bumper though.

That bumper is really sweet, I'd definitely keep that!

Enjoy the time building the truck with your pop, I built my first car, a 72 Nova between the age of 14 and 18 with my Dad, I'm 34 now, still have the car and the memories we made during that time and after will be with me for the rest of my life

For sure, i've already decided that it just needs to stay with the truck.

Well yesterdays progress, set the bed back on for my mom and she wanted pictures and the smart thing to do is to not fight and just do it, so oh well the best is sitting back the frame for now. Anyways I pulled all the glass from the doors because the doors aren't straight and I intend to make them as straight as I can get them. After I fix the doors I plan on moving to the floor and rockers.

As you can see the problem im facing with the doors, they're almost warped I would say. The cancer on the floors are not terrible, glad I caught it at an early stage

Looks like an awesome place to start! Sheesh I remember being 17 joining hotrods.com and being the "young gun." Up until reading some of these threads I still felt like a young gun (I'm 30), but I guess I just aged faster than I thought.

Looking forward to following this build! My vote is for an LS with a T56 behind it.

Just a little update, i've been pretty busy disassembly (Had a little surprise) and made a cart for the bed (You can see a just a bit of the front fender of the car that got me involved in older vehicles. Next I hope to get rockers and a door skin to fix the door and treat all the rust on the floor, and after that I will start my body work/paint possibly with the drivetrain mixed in sometime soon.

I figured I would just post this because I felt like someone might ask, the car is a 67 nova my dad bought when he was 16 and has kept for all these years (he is 51 now). He had many other muscle cars including some camaro's but he says that he is glad he kept this car because it was his favorite. Maybe Ill get the pleasure of calling it mine one day

Hi chevy.c10. Your C10 looks so clean, and your Dad's Nova is sweet. I was surprised that the floors are that rusty... I guess you never know until you get into it.

Like all the other talented young guys in here, I'm sure you'll impress us older dudes!

I was happy it wasn't worse. A elder friend of mine that has restored a few vehicles now calls all older vehicle onion vehicles, because the more you peel away the more you cry.

Well as much as I hate to looking at this this a few months ago, a curveball was thrown my way, any way my dad came up with a pretty cool idea of how to pull a large amount of the dent out at one time which involve some angle iron a bolt and a cable come-a-long as you can see the little tool in the picture, it took out most of the dent and i'm pulling the rest with a dent puller. Im not quite finished yet and it looked better now than the last picture I took shows but ill keep working it out until i'm satisfied with how it looks.

Hey welcome to the Forum. So great to have younger men carry on with the preservation of these old trucks.

And of course its a great starter, it came from Dallas. Doran was around for a VERY long time.

Thanks, I've always had a soft spot for these old chevy trucks. Mind I ask is Doran still running today?

I have a frame question to, it isn't in bad condition by all means, I took a wire wheel to the back half of the frame and sprayed some loctite rust neutralizer on a small spot of the frame and like it was suppose to it turned black. It says on the bottle it it suppose to be a paintable surface after sprayed with the product but I wanted to know if anyone else has used it before and if it is okay to paint of the top of neutralized surface?
