Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Well I guess I'm going to do it. I bought this from Tom (Tll74) from Oregon had it hauled here to Kansas. He bought it from a guy who had it all tore down, Tom put it together for shipping to get it to me. Has some rust on floor pans, a little behind doors, small rust behind rear wheel where exhaust comes out, a little on front fenders. Doors are the worse, drivers hinge area is cracked and both lower doors ar rusted. I have a good set of truck doors he is going to cut down and put in re inforcement plate by latch. No rust in bedfloor. Has a pretty good dent in tailgate but bodyman says he can fix it. He is going to fix al rust and dents, paint door jams, tailgate jams, and dash area and kick panels. As of now not going to paint bedlfoor but that may change. Not painting firewall or inside fenders. Getting motor tuned up and brakes all checked, putting it all back to original under hood hopefully, if I can find a carb.
Have NOS sport mirrors, NOS woodgrain door panel inserts, bought a tilt, Bought a original AM-FM, Going to buy a woodgrain glove box door, Bought new seat covers, bought a near new outer steel chrome plated grill, new inner grill, better console, better rear panels, tach. Have a original ALL chrome tailgate handle off a 71 super I parted
Need to buy new carpet, new rear seat cover, new seals, new grill emblem and bezels.
I have some 8 inch ralleys with BFG 33x12.50x15 on them to go on it. not sure if I will put a 2 inch lift or not, but will put new shocks on it
Going to mechanic this week I hope, then to bodyman in Dec, he said 3-5 months, HOPEFULLY!!!

Anyway here are before pics and some while I'm tearing it down. More to come as things get done

Wow that is pretty clean inside Randy, should be a great project. Just to let you know I've never met a bodyman that did not take longer than planned, so have a buffer month in there. Good luck with the Blazer.

Ahh the memories. Thats where mine was about a year ago. I gotta post some pic of it done when I get some glamor shots. Very nice project Randy. Looking forward to seeing this build. Are you going with the same color? Same color interior? I have the BFGs 33x12.50 on my Blazer and I love them. I would say no lift It will be tall enough in my opinion. When you are ready for carpet I got my 4 pc set for 275 shipped and it was ACC and I am very satisfied with it. Classic industries had the cheepest price on the rear seat cover I could find. Good luck on the build and since I just completed doing what you are starting if you have any questions just ask.

Love to watch you build this one Randy....it'll be fun to see it built instead of parted

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Monte, I'm actually taking it to 2 other guys and see what they say about it as far as cost and time
Jud, man it might test my patience, I'm used to tearing down not putting together
Brian, yours is nice!!!!!! I'm going with the green again and black interior. I'll be in touch when I get that far on the carpet and cover
Jeff, I'll probably need a little assistance with it;)
Geoff, Thanks it will definately be different for me
Thanks to ALL!!!!!!!! Randy

I think there's a guy in your area that just likes to part these things out. Hopefully he doesn't get ahold of this good example.

I think my plans have changed for this blazer, I think I'm going to paint it white, its headed to bodyshop the 20th hopefully

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

White? Say it ain't so!!

teeitup 01-05-2012 10:34 PM

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Sorry I like white better than green. My bodyman is going to blast it all anyway so changing colors won't cost me anything.

Vintage Windmills 01-05-2012 11:42 PM

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Randy, are you rebuilding the engine or is it good? So now every vehicle there will be white:) oh wait, your hd might be a different color, pewter right? Take that in at the same time and get that corrected;)

teeitup 01-05-2012 11:58 PM

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Jud, your right my HD is pewter, my duramax I had before was white;)
Engine runs good, no smoke or anything, Just pulling motor so I can clean it up and paint it while the blazer is at the bodymans place. Thats when I decided to go white with blazer, I wanted a white one and finding one of those would be very hard so this way I'll have one.

Who did you end up taking it to for the body work? I need a little repair work done on my 68. The shop I took my G8 to for hail damage was horrible IMO.

I'm taking it to guy in Shawnee Ks, he does it out of his house. I've seen 3 of the cars/trucks he has done, all turned out nice. I can give you his phone number, he just finished a 72 4x4, and is doing a 70 chevelle now

Cool, yeah I might get his number when I'm finally ready to get the truck fixed (gonna keep ahold of the money incase my house sits vacant while we try to sell it.....got to be "responsible" :( )

Getting closer to the bodyshop, wow I'm fearing when I have to put it all back together, I'm so used to tearing apart these things I'm not sure if I can do it, I'm sure I'll have alot of questions, Bodyman thought he would be ready for it the 20th. Had to take it to my work in the heat to get it all tore apart, way to cold to part it out outside right now

Nice to hear Randy. Did he give you a completion date?

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Not sure Ryan, the last chevelle project he finished took 2 1/2 months. It will take me alot longer than that to get it back together once he's done;) Summer time is a hard time for me to get much done except golf course stuff and kids

Re: Teeitup's build I guess!!!!!!

Congrats Randy - it's gets exciting now! Progress photos of body/paint when you stop to check on it would be good.
