Factory Blazer Colors
4 Attachment(s)
I have looked around on the forum and haven’t seen this yet so I figured I would ask. I am leaning towards painting my K5 an original color and can’t make up my mind on what to go with. Why don’t we get a collection of all the factory colors offered on our Blazers/Jimmys? I think it would be a good reference for everyone. If your blazer is a good example of one of the factory colors (original or repainted), go ahead and post it here. Please let us know what year and color it is. I would start with a pic of my 72 dark olive, but it is not what I would call a "good example". Someone let me know if this post already exists and I am just too dumb to find it. ;)

:gi:
I won't bother posting mine either since it also doesn't qualify. |
Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Something that caught my eye was the Silver Poly on the 1969 chart. Did this actually make it to trucks/blazers? I have never seen it.

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
I think they all were available but I've never seen one.

I'm sad that nobody wants to play. :( I was really hoping to see some of these colors and know that they are correct. VT, 72Levi I know y'all have something to post. ;)

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Bump...
Good idea. I'd like to see some good photos of factory colors. |
Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Are there two "Medium Greens" on the '71 sheet?

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Here is one of the orange's from 72. Don't know which one because my spid has a typo on the color, but it's the original color on mine.
Funny though, all your color sheets call the all the orange colors "yellow" http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...1/P3050008.jpg |
Re: Factory Blazer Colors
This is Hugger Orange (called red orange in 70) code 524 on my 70 SWB pickup

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Definately looks more red than orange, not just your truck, but even the hugger orange color on the PPG sheet looks red. Definately not the hugger orange I've used from the 69 passenger car color charts. Guess they tweak that a bit on the trucks.

Thanks for the factory color option sheets!

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Where do I begin? Critter.....I would certainly like to have a dark olive Blazer ( my first color choice ). PLEASE do not paint it another color! I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain there was no "silver" color for GM Blazers, Jimmys, or pickups in the 1967 - 1972 model years...I've never seen one. But, if I correctly recall, there is a "gold" type of color and also a "copper", the first being more rare than the latter. Also, the PPG charts have tagged the Chevrolet / GM colors with their own names...those are not the factory names listed on the PPG charts. For example, SeventyOne.....there are at least 3 greens...light olive, dark, olive, and meadow green ( bright green turquiose ). rsavage...I think the factory name for the 514 color code is red orange, which is more red than orange. I think the actual orange posted in the one photo is tangier orange. The only other color names I know besides the basic white and black are ochre ( mustard ), hawiian blue, and mariner blue. I think there was a maroon color in 1969 and maybe 1970, but I do not know the actual factory name or color code from the build sheet decal inside the glovebox door. The only other thing I'd like to add is, in my humble opinion, the lower wide black / chrome body molding along with the black / chrome tailgate molding with Chevrolet or GMC, looks great and really sets off the Blazer and or pickup once it is painted. I see too many vehicles restored with the wide lower molding and no tailgate applique.....just painted over the big molded letters. Also, I like the newer rally wheels painted the body color with chrome trim rings...and either keep the center cap original ( chrome ) or black would look good with some colors along with a black hard top or black bikini top...so the wheel would have body color, chrome, and black. I think that would be a real eye catcher!

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
FirebirdJones is correct.......hugger orange was not a Blazer or pickup color. Hugger Orange was a muscle car color, and maybe only on one car.....the 1969 COPO Camaro.....which rolled off the assembly line with 427 cubic inch V8's.....the L72 had cast iron block and heads, while the ZL1 ( only 69 ever made ), had the racing engine...cast aluminum block and heads...500 pounds lighter. 1969 COPO Camaros had body color painted wheels with true dog dish hub caps. Somewhere between 3 and 7 Corvettes got the rare ZL1 engine in 1969.

Mine is a 1972. The spid says Medium Bronze. There is no paint code listed but the option number is 152210. I don't know if the option code and paint code are the same thing.

ok 45 here goes.. I know the names are unreadable. so will start at the top and work my way down.. Midnight Black - Crimson Red - Tangier Orange - Willow Green - Frost White - Meadow Green - Glenwood Green - Wheatland Yellow - Hawaiian Blue - Mariner Blue - Firebolt Orange - Spruce Green (M) - Grapefruit Yellow - Classic Bronze (M) - Spanish Gold..

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
YB,
The paint code for your vehicle would be 522, it is part of the option number. |
Re: Factory Blazer Colors
1972 K5,
I find it interesting your option code decal calls your 504 color, medium olive green.....but OMJ's 1972 Blazer brochure color chart calls it willow green. I have seen it as medium olive ( not willow green ) on photos of the option code decal on the inside of the glovebox door. I saw a photo of the 511 ochre ( mustard ) color couple of weeks and I think it is the same color called wheatland yellow on OMJ's brochure. Maybe General Motors wanted to use fancy names on advertising and marketing materials. Probably another example of one department in a large corporation not knowing what another department is doing and or not doing. Anyone with a blue Blazer or pickup out there? What is the name and the color code listed on the option decal in the glovebox? I'm going to guess / bet it's not hawaiian blue or mariner blue, but medium blue, bright medium blue...something like that. |
Re: Factory Blazer Colors
I had a 69 gmc parts truck, that was silver. It was original paint on firewall, and hidden areas.
Hugger orange was available in many different years, and on many different models, from 69-71, and again in 76. It came with several different names. Pontiac called it Carousel red. On Corvettes it was called Monaco Orange, etc. Car Hugger is a little more orange than the truck hugger. |

To throw a real curve ball in here, my 72 Blazer pictured above (post 12?) is an original Tangier Orange, still with alot of it's original paint (floors and underhood as well as jambs,,,as you can see in the pics) But the color on my SPID is "medium olive". It's the original SPID as serial numbers match and everything else appears correct for options. Was this a monday truck?? Definately a typo on mine as far as the color goes.... http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...1/PC190015.jpg http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...1/PC190014.jpg http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...1/P8120013.jpg |

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
I actually like those softer yellows. Reminds me of GM Butternut Yellow circa 66-68.

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
They remind me of the old yellow-green Forest Service trucks, but yeah, I've always liked that color.

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
Wow, I've kinda been out of touch with the forum lately but I'm glad I checked in. What made me write this post in the first place was I had seen a silver 67 or 68 (can't remember exactly) out at Medina Lake. From the road it looked to be original and was even for sale! I never went back and looked at it to see its true condition or if it was original paint. I kick myself all the time for not looking into it!

I'm pretty sure this is Hawaii Blue. It's actually a little darker than the pics appear. Obviously I'm just getting started on restoration.

Just checked the placard. It says medium blue.

Re: Factory Blazer Colors
1972 525 yellow, with a twist. I had them go light on the green pigment. Not much different.

Here is the very original paint for code 510. It is obviously faded and lighter then stock. Looks more like the 507 for 69.
