Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

The one thing to be careful with, is to know how they are insured.

Two of my friends have been burned by shipping companies (sorry that I don't know the names).

One had shipping damage on a 1969 Camaro and another had the rarer parts "stolen" off of their 1971 Challenger while it was being shipped.

Both companies legally had "insurance", but they were both self-insured, so the both denied the claims.

I know people have had great experiences with Reliable and Intercity lines transport, but I have never used them myself

Direct Dispatch
https://direct-dispatch.com/
.....was an absolute nightmare to work with. Ended up cancelling the order after a week of lies and no communication. DO NOT USE!

Coast to coast Auto
www.Coasttocoastauto.com
......was a great company to deal with. Great communication, great driver, and very professional.

Also heard good things about United Road, but they did not transport from Oregon so I had to look else where.

Good luck!

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

Make sure to use a company with their own trucks and not a broker. Many of them are just brokers who post their "loads" out for the cheapest bid.

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

You can play them against each other to get a good deal. If you decide on one company let them know you have a cheaper estimate.

I'm currently going through this now. So far my uShip quotes have been $1 per mile for the trip. I am less concerned about theft and such because the truck basically looks like it isn't worth anything...it just is to me :) I'm not even that strict on the drop off date and its not winter yet. Trying to get a non-running '49 from Texas to Pennsylvania. I'm hoping the price comes down the closer I get to the end of the auction.

I'm having trouble getting this done also. I'm trying for open transport fron Glassport, PA to Nevada. Uship was about 1400 and tried carshipper.com. Had a million responses but went with allied logistics for 950. There's a charge to cancel and they said it would ship by today. Talked to agent today, they are merely a broker and can't find a driver for that cheap so they are offering more money to get it done (this is out of their cut, I don't know what they are offering the driver.)

So Allied Logistics asked for more money or are they sticking with the $950 for you? How'd you find them?

Wow so you're about 2200 miles to my 1300 mile trip and my quotes are $1400 too! :-/

mrtoni 09-30-2016 05:40 PM

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

They haven't asked for more money. But if I'm paying 950 how much do they get to broker the deal? They said they will offer more to drivers to snag one. It's 99 bucks to cancel so we will see if it works out. I found them when they responded to my request on carship.com

jocko 09-30-2016 05:45 PM

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

Asking for more money is a common ploy. Normally in a brokerage arrangement, the amount you pay up front is the broker's cut and the amount to the trucker upon delivery is his. The trucker is usually the one trying to jack up the price at the last second based on some last minute whatever. But I have had a broker screw with price at the last second when they knew I was up against a hard deadline. In that case I had to rent a trailer and take it myself MD to CA.

If you want dependability - ask if they own their own trucks or if they are a broker. If it HAS to be shipped in a certain window, I'd avoid a broker. I got totally hosed by Angels Moving Autos. Never never no never again. If time not an issue, then a broker may be ok if insured. Keep in mind that with any broker, you can still be hosed by the dorks they contract with. Case in point - my last shipping experience was with a reputable broker - but they could not help when the folks they contracted for my delivery were buffoons. They were late again and again on both pickup and delivery. They actually said they didn't realize Colorado had so many mountains. Not kidding. I missed work, they threatened to raise the price or leave it on the side of the road why I couldn't be present for their THIRD delayed delivery attempt. Anyway, it finally worked out, but it was extremely painful. For what it's worth, that was Swamp Fox shipping out of SC. Unfortunately, my favorite shipper, Bill Demoise Trucking, is no longer in business. I think! Might be worth checking.

Coast to Coast was great. They own their own trucks and you can talk to the driver whenever you want. I called my driver several times during transit to get updates. He told me that someone offered him $1000 to drop the keys to my truck on the ground and walk away for 15 minutes....LOL :)

For what it's worth if someone is moving a vehicle or large parts from CA/Oregon I have a cab I'm needing to move for a friend from near Oroville to Milwaukee. Perhaps we could combine the load with a shipper and save some money.... Let me know.

Thanks, Dave

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

My uShip ended and there is a delay in buying the vehicle so I had to cancel. I got a quote down to $975. There were two cheaper ones, but they were both brokers and I felt for the few dollars in savings, I didn't want to add a third party to this mess. I'll try again in a few days when the truck is finally sold. I'm assuming the quotes will be about the same for the 1300mi trip.

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

Not sure if you still are looking, but I had Countryside Auto Transport out of Menasha, WI ship my '75 F100 from Phoenix, AZ to me in SE Wisconsin. Driver was decent, price was a bit higher than I wanted it to be, but they picked up on Thursday morning and dropped off Monday just before noon. Driver said he would of been here earlier except he hit his 34 hour reset. I had to wait 3 weeks before they could pick it up because I hit them right at snowbird time!!! Give them a call and see what they have to say. Here is there link http://www.countrysideauto.com/

Hope this helps
Mike

Thanks, I'll give them a yell tomorrow and see what they say. Will advise how things go.

FYI, the company that quoted me $795 is called Cobalt Logistics based in MO. The guy I spoke to seems cool--name was Devin. Anyone ever use them?

I used to have a company I used a lot out of Oregon but they're long since defunct unfortunately. They were great to work with and cheap... boy I miss them now.

uShip turned out very successful for me. Got a bid from someone for the next day and it arrived about 30 hours later on my doorstep. No fuss, no mess. $850 for the 1300 mile trip on an open transport trailer. Now to start my build!!

I have been in contact with a uSHIP driver and think I'm good to go. Hes gonna fetch my truck in KY and swing over to TN and fetch my buddy buckets and bring it all home to PA.....
I was able to get his # directly without booking thru USHIP. I'll let you know how it pans out. No payment until delivery.....

Has anyone dealt with any good companies that do cross border (Can/US) and/or Canadian shipping at a reasonable rate?

weq92f 11-05-2016 04:20 PM

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

Recently went through this myself and ended up opting to simply drive it myself cross country. The quotes I got were 1 dollar per mile covered, where open air transport was just over half that from a few others.

Avoid brokers if possible.

Reviving an old thread...

I've used InterCity Lines a few times (cross country, 1st Gen Camaros), Never an issue, highly professional. Most likely will use again for the longhaul trip.

With that said, Anyone have recommendations for shipping CA to NV?
I've got price quotes in the $300 range, which for the time and gas, I don't think that's a bad deal.
Just wondering if anyone has used any 'local' west coast shippers for a short run?

Thanks,

Kevin

don't know what all the numbers and scores mean, but this guy did a great job for me on a 65 C20 from MO to CA couple of years ago..

was nice and polite to my Mom on the pickup end and delivered to my driveway as promised..

he lives in Temecula I believe and I found him through a broker..

RONNIE MONTOJO CHANG (California Transport Company)

last year I used UZ Auto Trans through Montway Transport to ship 72 K1500 suburban from CO to CA, also positive experience..

I wonder if any one of these guys that do transport.I wonder if the shippers had a C130 transport plain.I bet there are a few guys that own the C130 and would get it there in 2-4 days.It cost a little bit to get it to one state or across the country. If they can transport hummers and jeeps and deuce 1/2 I bet they could transport are old chevy trucks or classic car's and trucks

Nothing yet, but I did look Ronnie up. He's only an hour away from the truck I need shipped. I gave him a call, he said he wasn't running for another month, so I asked if he could recommend anyone. He's supposed to call me back in a couple hours.
Not sure what will come of it, but he seemed like a nice enough guy.
I'll keep you guys posted ;)

Re: Transport Company Recommendations????

Just wanted to follow-up and post in this thread...

I never used it, but had excellent luck with Uship (www.uship.com).

I didn't know how it worked, but effectively you post what it is you want shipped, where from and to, and put a price you're willing to pay. They provide you with an average 'range' of what shipping might cost, so you can set your price accordingly.
You will (in my case within an hour) get responses from shippers willing to accept your price. Primarily based on their feedback, you have an idea on their reputation. Once you accept a shipper's offer, you make payment to USHIP, who then holds payment until the shipper has successfully made delivery. At that point, you 'release' the funds and that's it.

I ended up using PLATINUM SHIPPING out of California and the guys were awsome. Picked the truck up within a couple days, called ahead before arrivals and delivery went as smooth as can be. Actually even delivered the truck ahead of time.

In my case the delivery was from California to Las Vegas, $280. For the time and fuel to drive out and back, it was well worth it.

I'm currently trying to ship a Suburban from Tracy, CA to my home in KY. Montway had the lowest bid of around $1200, saying it would be picked up in 1 - 5 days. After about two weeks it hadn't moved so I canceled with them. After I canceled, they called and said they had someone to pick it up for $1700but I passed. I am now going through a local trucking company who uses Ready Logistics and it is supposed to be in KY in 10 to 15 days for $1600. It's been fours days so far and it hasn't been picked up yet.

It may not be in your case, but something I meant to comment on in my post yesterday is that I wanted to avoid brokers. Not that they are all bad, but it just seems there is less control on who gets the job.
Through Uship, I was able to know which shippers were independent and that was an added bonus.
