Project: 1971 Chevy K10 (56K Warning.....65 large pics!!!)
 

Hey, Just bought a 1971 Chevy K10 truck and started to rip into it today.

Has a lot of missing parts, needs full interior, T-case, front suspension, some rear suspension, the pics below will show in detail the truck as we got it.

Looks like you have a good start on it - and it also looks like you will have plenty of work to do...(make sure you are current on your tetanus shots) - :)

Yes on the new cab - you will be $ and time ahead if you did.

ok that was our thoughts going into it as well to a point. (im the one helping him do the resto). My tetanus is current as of 10-07 :)

We are planning on taking the cab and fenders off tonight.. so we can get the frame cleaned up and sand blast it.

These are both well worth the asking price...and he is an honest seller as well - :) - you will be soooo much farther ahead to getting it done...

Next up is stripping all axles, suspension, wiring/lines basically everything down to the bare frame to get it blasted and cleaned up. Does everyone agree thats a good starting place?

wow, that is a lot of work ahead of you.. if you want to see how much then look at my build... think 3 years and $8K!!

I would look for a good cab for under $1K or if you are brave enough you can do a full full replacement like mine... That's if the firewall and roof are rust free... It's still a $500 project with the new floor...

I'm gonna have this moved into the 4x4 build section...

Man, yours makes my 71 look like a show truck. All I have to do is replace the rockers, and kick panels. Keep up the good energy.:metal:

well so far so good.....2 days to go from complete truck minus driveline to bare frame! Total of about 8-9 hrs

worked on it again today, got all the brake lines and starting ripping into the brakes (what a greese pit lol).

Slowly but but getting a nice start one it for only working on it for three days

now now chris...the brakes arent greasy....only the bearing assembly in the hub!! :D :D

question for you guys, that cross member that is right in front of the rear axle is either cut or rusted out. Does anyone one know if that goes straight across or does it come up and then go back down or dp down? any one know what i am asking? lol

It is pretty much strait but with some recess in the center. I would recommend getting one from a parts truck, it will have to be a leaf spring truck though...if I am wrong someone will let you know. BTW, great start, I did same and took 3 yrs like MR GROSS. Was just gonna b a quickie resto though. LOL. Keep on it and you will have it faster, just keep in mind that if you modify lots of things that it takes longer to set it all up like for example different axles from other model trucks or big block, newer style tranny and aftermarket interior from other rigs that will require fab work. That being said, others could do all that super quick, but me the "jack of all master of none" and redoing several things more than once took way longer than planned.

I would find someone cutting up a frame and just replace it..

try 6t727t2 in NJ and maybe he has one... it's like 16 rivets though..

:eek:WOW! I would go with a better cab and part the good pieces of your cab (roof,firewall,dash)to recoup some of the cost of the new one.Plenty of people on this board need that stuff.Good luck fellas :metal:
