Probably not that bad, but if I don't find a SWB chassis to swap everything over to, who knows.......

I haven't seen any 50th's with a big block either. The front of the frame has been hit pretty good, so I think I'm going to swap everything over to a short bed chassis and build a 50th BB SWB......

Re: Question on 50th production numbers..

I was searching for some info on how to identify a 50th and ran across a couple that were said to be 396/402 50th's. Didn't see any numbers on how many were made or anything though.

Re: Question on 50th production numbers..

I saw a 50th SWB 396 at Pomona about a year ago. It was complete....but very very rough, and looked like it hadn't run in years. I caught it at the end on my way out, sitting on a trailer. It had A/C, buddy buckets, P.S., etc. Dude wanted $9000 for it

I've got all that except the buddy buckets.....wait a minute, I might have an extra set of those.......:D.

Re: Question on 50th production numbers..

no 402 in 68... only 396.
stillookin up in washington, he has a big block 50th longhorn... I'm thinking a one ton. Either one would be pretty dam rare. (1902 C/20 longhorns made, and only 213 C/30 longhorns in 68)

My crazy plan is starting to fall into place. Here's some pictures of what I picked up over the weekend, a complete 71 402/TH400. All I need now is a short bed frame.......:D.

Thanks. I still have another cab and doors that I'm supposed to pick up this week. It's a 69 CST a/c cab. I'll send you pictures when I get it.

, this is not going to be a ground up. It'm just going to throw the parts I have gathered up together for a nice "shop truck", :D.

Roger that! I'm picking up a short bed chassis sometime this week and I plan on starting the cab swap, then the motor swap and finally, shortening the bed. I've got to have all this done in about 7 weeks......:uhmk:

Somewhere in my stash i found a 50th Longhorn with a 396 big block forsale. I have pics and as soon as i find them, i will post them. Unless one of the older board members maybe kept those. I'd say that was back in 99 or 00 i saw that truck. If i recall correctly a board member at the time bought it up.

better hurry, aren't you moving soon???? Just tow the 50th trailer behind the 50th cab with no bed and tell people it slid back there and you can't get it to slide back!

Re: Question on 50th production numbers..

Some 1968 trucks were promoted in the "Golden Anniversary Sale", a celebration for building trucks for 50 years. These were just specially equipped packaged trucks a lower price than buying the options seperately. The only difference between this promotion than the other promotions was it came in only one color. These packages typically came out at mid to end of model year to spur sales. In 67, there was a "Pacesetter Special", in 72, there was the "Highlander" and in the mid 70's there was the "Bonanza". All special promotion trucks would be built in smaller numbers.

That looks like something I would do. Totally disassemble a truck knowing I was moving in a month. Gotta love it. Plus, there is no better inspiration than knowing you have to put it together or part it out. Good luck and cant wait to see more pics.
