I purchased a 68 c10 friday that I plan on doing a frame off. it is a little rough around the edges but I plan on changing from the farm truck it was used for into a rolling gem;)
it has a 305 in it currently:crazy: which will be sold and replaced with undecided yet motor

ok I will give you more then one pic cause I have been running the roads of NC all day the first thing I brought home was a fleetside shortbed with the original paint still on it needs the wood floor replaced which I am a woodworker by trade so I am going to use cypress on the floor plus do some custom woodworking for the front of the bed :chevy:
Second I picked up a cab 15 minutes down the road in very good condition needs rockers and a little touch of care here and there but overall great for an original cab you all can take a guess at what I paid for each piece so I can see if I got a good deal or not:lol:
The cab is getting dropped off tomorrow at my buddys body shop. He does frame off restorations and has an awesome talent

the guy also gave me a dolly he had made to wheel the bed around which is very nice to have.
and also me and the wife got the stepside removed today as soon as I sell the motor we will be removing the cab and front clip so the frame can get sent to the sandblaster;)

Re: 68 project

that is a nice looking project, i wish i could drive around the backroads here and find parts like that, but not here, everything is trashed.

Re: 68 project

I gave 500 for the bed it has one rust hole a little bigger then a nickel behind the drivers side wheelwell :metal: the cab I gave 400 for it and it needs rockers and cab mounts :chevy:

well starting the reassembly of my project 68,, been collecting parts for the last year ,, tired of seeing it in pieces,, got the frame all painted and the new crossmember mounted, now to get the suspension mounted so I can get it a rolling frame once again then the motor rebuild will start, as that will be my next goal to get the motor and transmission set into the frame ;)

GR8-68 09-18-2010 08:14 PM

Re: 68 project

yes it is a custom, I guess it will always be a 68 seeing that is what it is titled as, just didnt wnt the marker lights, actually been thinking about putting 68 charger marker lights on the sides..

Are you going back 68? I have an excellent pair of 68 fenders I'd be willing to trade if those are decent 67's

Re: 68 project

Haven't worked on this in 6 years... ready to get done with it, just ordered my lowering springs, my tank relocation kit is on the way and just bought an exhaust system for it. Ready to get this frame rolling and start rebuilding the 327

68Gold/white 05-18-2016 11:05 AM

Re: 68 project

Glad to see you back after it!
Life can get in the way. My 67 and 68 have both been sitting around too long, hope to get the 67 going this year!

I'm wondering about what route you are taking on the 327? If it's a large journal block, a 383 deal would be easy!
Also glad to see you using old school engine. LS engines are awesome, but the oldies can be made to run awesome, also!

GR8-68 05-21-2016 06:15 AM

Re: 68 project

I hashed around the idea of an ls and all and just kept being tugged back to sticking with the oldie... Nothing like a thumping small block. I am not even sure what the 327 is, brought it home and its been stuck in the corner ever since. :smoke:

Re: 68 project

Well not much progress unless you consider collecting parts. Have been trying to get what I need first then I can hit a good lick on it.

Rear mounted tank is here, new rear wheel wells have come in, got my guages my seat belts and visors, lowering springs have come in all my front suspension is here and ready to assemble on my frame. Bought a new exhaust system local (guy changed plans after he had it made) bad for him good for me. ;)

Re: 68 project

Although I am itching to spend time on bolting parts to the frame I have to dicipline myself to know that I must take the time to do it thoroughly. I have been collecting parts for 6 years now and almost there with having the biggest part of what I need. So guys keep throwing up your unwanted items you have left so I can continue on and finish project 68 "BETTY" as my wife and I call her.

Well after watching and watching and numerous miles of driving I found what I think was the best candidate for a cab donor. Not but 1 hour from my home he had posted it on craigslist and I kept procrastinating on whether to even make the hour long trip to look at it but finally decided what the heck if nothing else it will be a scenic drive  After crawling around under it and on my back on the floorboard and another week of contemplating I made the deal and brought her home. Today I started stripping her down to pull the cab and get the cab ready for the little bit of bodywork she needs. Here is the results after pulling the seat and mats out of her. To say the least I was well pleased with what I found. I believe I captured her from a life of rotting just in time. :mm:

Re: 68 project

Still rounding up parts but I have been sand blasting some small parts and prepping them and priming for paint, I figure a little progress is better than no progress. :chevy:

After I return from Carlisle I plan to start bolting on the suspension and get some wheels back on this frame after 7 years of sitting on jack stands
