now i am working on the tub. It was covered in this thick clay like dirt and undercoating on the bottom so i scraped it off with a scraper.

still working on the blazer. I havent been good at keeping this up to date so i'll post up the few pictures i have taken.
I discover that inside the cowl area was more rotted that i originally thougt so i cut all the spot welds and did some repair. Also this water diversion channel was toast so i fabed up some new pieces and painted the whole thing while it was apart. I dont have any shots of it painted though(i tend to get working and forget pics) |

after the cowl was finished id assembled everthing. I had to do some mods to the new femder on the drivers side it didnt match the curve of the door. also i had to enlarge the holes in the radiator support and the grill because the holes did not line up with the repop fenders.

I also sprayed al's liner on the inside of the tub. It went on easy and looks good.

My self inflicted wound has pretty much healed and have gotten some work done as a result. I replaced the inner door bottoms. The patch pannel for these fit poorly. It took lots of work to get everthing to line up right.

Re: blazer project
wow man looks good that may look like a little work to some but thats WORK!
keep at it hang in there your really comming along! |
Re: blazer project
It's starting to shape up! Can't wait to see more.
|
Re: blazer project
Going to be a sweet blazer! Keep it up!

Re: blazer project
What are you doing to prevent damage to the body panels when you tip the body on it's side to work on the undercarriage? Seems like a good way to get access if it doesn't do the body panels harm.
Good looking truck and good progress! |

Wanderlusty: I got the idea from a pic i saw one here. Its so simple and works great its just 2 peices of box tubing welded in a "L" shape with some exhaust tubing welded to the top to even out the spacing between the dolly's and the tub. I used a cherry picker to tip it up and put a strap on top to make sure it didnt tip to fast once it got over the center of gravity. I'll try to remember to get better pics for ya but they are on the tub in this pic also you can see the nylon strap on the top.

oldblue1968chevy, 1956cameo, splehigh, Wanderlusty thanks for the encouragement! I'm terribly slow at bodywork and i dont really like it so its taking me forever so the kind words help alot.

still chugging along on the blazer project. I'm trying to get all the big parts painted before the snow flies. Painted the dash and inside of the windshield frame earlier this month. Next i sanded off the rattle can primer i was using to keep it from rusting while i worked and put on etch primer and epoxy sealer. Then my girlfriend and I built this paint booth out of plastic.

Finally put some color on this thing last weekend. I put it on the frame and pushed it outside yesterday, It's been 4+ years since the tub has been on the frame. I need to wetsand and buff the clear its got some orange peel but overall i'm happy. Now off to work so i can get the doors, fenders, and other bits painted.

Re: blazer project
Not really any updates its been to cold and my spending cash is being eaten up heating my house. I did manage to get the exhaust built but did'nt take pics yet.

Re: blazer project
On your frame to put the Blazer on its side - is the box tubing touching the side of the body on the floor side?
Or is all the weight on the (four?) bolts holding the L to the frame? Did your bolts bend at all with this setup? |
Re: blazer project
My "L" shaped rig for tipping it has some old exhaust pipe welded on that the bolts go through. Actually i had to use threaded rod because in the rear the bolts had to be 12 inches or so. I did not have any of the bolts bend. It does not touch the body on the bottom side but i had to make it real close so i would have room to tip it with my low ceiling. Once it was tipped up i used blocks under my cross braces that were across the top of the bed for extra support. Also i used a rope to ease it over when tipping ,i did it alone, but if you have help it would be cake without it.

Your build is very impressive! I like it. What is going on in picture above though? I don't see your L supports? I love your tip setup there - and totally want to use it, but needs some more explanation please... Could you explain in short words (I'm slow today) what you mean about "blocks under the cross braces" - do you mean the cross braces at the door? So blocks between floor and door bracing? |
Re: blazer project
Very nice man that fresh paint has got to get you motivated..
|
Re: blazer project

put the windshield in and also started the soundproofing on the firewall. I'm waiting for my firewall pad set to come in so i can install the wiring, heater/AC parts, parking brake pedal, dashpad, glove box, and gauges. I gotta remember to take pics of the exhaust that is done except for some turndowns.

I have been working on the blazer a lot lately. I took a bunch of pics the other day and i'm going to catch up the build thread over the next couple days.
here are some pics of the exhaust, what you can see of it at least. I used the newer style hanger because i like the clean look. |
Re: blazer project

I also change the parking brake cables to this newer style system. It works great and it is simple.

I got the heater core and a\c evaporator installed. I changed the evaporator to one that would go in a late 90's van. It was real close to the same size as the original but is for 134a. I plan to buy a sanden type compressor and buy or make the hoses. I'm going to look at a salvage yard for a suitable 134a condensor. I also rearranged the wiring so that all the engine wiring comes out near the wires that go to the rear lights. I never liked the wiring in the channel across the firewall. On the inside i pulled the connectors out of the fuse block plug that i wanted to re-route and used an old fuse block plug as a connector.
