69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
I am in the process of getting all the plans and information on one of the original manufactures of the half top. I have the mold to try them. I am waiting for the plans for the steel reinforcments and technical information.I am wondering how interested people would be in getting one. We would need further information on production cost and firm up a selling price. I am looking for feedback about the idea. Thanks

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Tops
I think that you would have a big market for them...
Be even cooler if you could combine it with a hinged hard tonneau cover too... |
Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Tops
I have a '72 K/5 project that wants a half-top.

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Tops
i'm gonna move this to the blazer section for more coverage... I also updated the title... Just be sure that before you start taking orders or running the business that you check out our vendor sales accounts, they give you a lot more privelages and ad options...

Looking forward to seeing where this goes.. |
Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
There has been at least two companies in recent years that have tried manufacturing half tops. One called Compudyne (out of business) and http://www.myrodshop.com/blazer.html or http://sexyhalftop.com/.
I have not read about a single board member who has purchased either tops. I think they are/where selling around $1000, but I have never looked into them. |
Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
I think if you can price them below/near the soft top cost - you might do well since nobody likes to drill holes into their rigs if they can avoid it.

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
I'm the one with a bulk head I'll take measurements no problem

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
What about this Idea! A kit to convert a steel hardtop from a pickup to fit a Blazer. Someone may have tried to do this, but did anyone succeed!!! Another idea might be to adapt the Blazer removable top to work on a pickup. Both might be complicate, but there should be a market for them.......
|
Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
It would be nice to be able to buy a removable, fiberglass half top. The steel wall wouldn't be too bad to make if you didn't care if it looked original.

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
Have half cab made by MTP MINNESOTA TRUCK PARTS, but the one i have is for a dodge trailduster i think, because it is wider on sides than a blazer body. original price of tops were $2400 ea. only the military and railroad were the only ones that could buy them. Thats why they are rare.Have original ad for tops.

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
Those tops might cost $2400 now [if you could get them] but I doubt if they cost that much when the 1st Gen K/5s were new. The factory list price for my [once-] loaded Custom '71 K/1500 Jimmy was $3,374.00. I paid more than that for it in 1995.
$250 would've been an exhorbitant amount that only railroads or the military could afford then. I don't remember seeing a millitary 1st Gen K/5, when I was in the Marines in the mid-'70s. Lots of stepsides, maybe a few fleetsides and the Navy had some Suburbans, but no Blazers. Not that I wished to imply that you're a liar, but the ecomomics of the period were on a smaller scale. |

Count me in all well. If i could get a better pic of the metal cab mount, that's seems very easy to make.

Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
could the molds you have be used to make the top out of plastic? Maybe cheaper than fiberglass? There must be some kind of injection molded plastic that is close to or equal in strength?
|
Re: 69 -72 Blazer Half Top production thoughts?
FYI... at this time, these aren't happening. He actually has the molds for sale here.
