Hey everyone!
Im pretty new to this site, i joined to get some ideas for my truck, and i cant believe how many talented people there are here. So many great projects, so i thought i'd share mine with you!

I picked up my 1972 Chevy C/10 in August of last year. She is a fleetside longbed, auto, 2WD, Power steering and brakes, and a brand new chevy 350 crate motor. that is pretty much it for modifications.

it is pretty beat up(as you can see from the photos). it was repainted at some point in in its life. it was originally two tone olive green(ugly).

This is my first project. i just turned 17 and now i need a cool summer driver! i cant guarantee my project will be as involved as other pojects that i have seen. i do not plan to take off any major body parts. i'm looking to get all the bad parts fixed, and the whole thing painted.

Hope you all enjoy!

Heres what she looks like

A couple weeks ago the truck went to a friend of mine to do some work to address a window leak. the window came out, and luckily the channel wasn't too bad, but it did need some work. So he repaired all the "bad" spots, fixed the roof gutter, and put down a layer of satin black to absorb the sunlight on the top of the dash. this is the one part of the project i did not want to try, i probably would have screwed it up.

i have been searching high and low for a rear bumper for my truck, and a can't find anything! :cuss:

i dont like the step bumper i have, it doesnt fit the look i'm going for. i want a normal bumper, but i dont want to buy new, my front bumper is pretty nice but it wouldnt match a brand new rear, and buying new all the way around would get expensive. so i was wondering if anyone had a bumper, thats not new, but not too used

here are some pics of what the front bumper looks like. these are the closest i have, ill get closer ones on friday when she comes home.

Well. the wait is killing me. its almost April.... but its so far away. before i even got the truck, i knew what i wanted to do with it, so i made this up to see what it would look like. this isn't my pic, because, again, this was before i had mine. What do you think?

Cameron 1137 04-01-2011 06:00 PM

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

So, its april, and my truck should be sitting in my driveway.... but mother nature sent an april fools joke my way, in the form of a snow storm :m2:

the weather men predicted 6-12", a full blown Nor'easter. i woke up this morning to find less than 2'' on the ground. THANK GOD!

As the day went on the snow slowly turned to rain and that inch melted away

so she is till in storage until this storm blows over, but i have more access to her where she is now, and i plan to get stuff done so she is road ready for early next week, and i can get her registered :two:

some pics to keep it interseting.

I did some small things this weekend. changed the marker lenses, put the shiny new LED tails in, put together the new tailgate and put it on the truck. hopefully i can get her registered early this week and bring her home. i still have to get the backup lights squared away, the rear view mirror mounted, the license plate light on, and the windshield wiper pump rebuilt :blah:. slowly but surely getting there.

I did some more work this weekend to get her road ready, backup and license plate lights etc.. i had to mod the heater control plate because the rivets pulled out. i drilled straight through the plate and bolted it to the control. it looks ok, i'm not going for stock or anything

Went to a swap meet in Stafford Springs CT today, picked up a shop manual, some wire loom, a brake pedal pad, and a steering wheel, its not stock, but its old.;)

while i was there i spotted alot of 67-72 Chevy and GMC trucks, but this burb was COOL:metal:

I like fixing little stuff like the lenses because I think they are a good bang for the buck.

Yeah, they make the truck look a little bit better, it distracts you from the rust:lol::lol:

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

i did some work this weekend, took off the lower trim and pounded out some dents. i also looked into why my gas gauge wasn't working. i tested the sending unit, 0 ohms at empty, 90 at full, so thats ok. i went to the plug that goes to the cluster, and tested the terminal for the fuel gauge, same story, its sending to the gauge, but its still not working. so that would leave the gauge itself. is there any way of testing the gauge? Would a working gauge drop to empty when i turn off the truck?

this is starting to get annoying! :m6:

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Vettevet is the fuel gauge go-to guy here. Helped me with mine (bad sender).

He has a diagram in this post on how the system works together:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ing+fuel+gauge

Run a search on "testing fuel gauge" on the main 67-72 forum and you will get plenty of ideas.

I had a friend of mine who is a machinist make up some adapter plates for my license plate lights. i think they came out pretty good. im going to paint the bumper this weekend. also went to the first cruise with the truck, felt good to get back out. And a pic without the lower moldings.

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

I need you guy's expert advice. im looking for a a set of cheap headers. can anyone recommend a set that will clear the frame rails? the cheaper the better, they dont have to be chrome

another thing, i know a guy that has some parts. he has 2 repro 68 fenders, a hood, core support, inner fender wells, doors; new and repro, rockers and a cowl. should i get the 68 stuff and convert my front clip? the front grill metal is expensive and so is the trim, and if not will the inner fender wells and rockers work on my 72, were they the same? i know the doors will work

Update time.

Exhaust is the star of this one.

removed the old:
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...-00-39_627.jpg

got some cheap headers wednesday, test fitted them, painted and installed them.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...-58-54_462.jpg
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...-58-42_909.jpg
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0897.jpg
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0891.jpg

Then she went to the muffler shop to have some pipes put on. i had already bought the flowmaster 40s so they put in pipe form the collectors to the flows.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0893.jpg
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...7/IMG_0895.jpg

so as of right now the flows dump just before the rear axle because i'm swapping out the step bumper for a sport bumper and it will sit higher than the step, so once i receive the bumper ill bring her back to the muffler shop.

Heres a vid of what she sounds like now. (much louder in person.)
