Ok the last couple of days we removed the brush guard and the running boards. I also tore down the top end to get ready for the new dizzy, carb, intake, fuel pump and water pump. I am still contemplating headers. The rust so far has been what I expect with no surpises. I think the Gm crate engine looks extremely clean and and hopeful of its outcome. It is still wet in the pics.

Picked up some seats today. There is another thread about what will be needed for installation that I will provide the link to once the mods move it to the burb board.

I saw your seat thread first and was gonna ask for more pics of your burb, but then I found this thread! Now my wife wants my Sub green!

Weird thing is everything I find is green out of about 6 trucks all were a green variation but one. When I tell my wife I found a truck the first question is,"Is it green?" then the laughing starts.

I get the same thing, seems i come across alot of green trucks n old cars.
Lets just say green isn`t my wifes favorite color, so i really enjoy when people compliment the color on my GREEN Sub.

Green suburbans are the best! Anyone who tells you differently is just jealous! Green trucks must have been THE thing in Texas back in the 70s. Out of all the trucks I have bought most of mine have been green as well, followed by orange. Ironically for as common as Ochre trucks are I have never bought one of those. Great job so far. Looking forward to seeing more.

From what my father in law tells me, greens and oranges were the most common. My Burb is "Terrace Blue" which everyone else calls "Seafoam Green", and the front driver's fender is the metallic orange underneath green. And go figure, my FIL had a 72 LWB that was, you guessed it, GREEN and white!

I'm glad you didn't mind me posting the picture. When I repaint my burb I am thinking of adding the white along the bottom as well. It just helps break up the large expanse of the main body color.

Well I made a little progress today and did not turn a wrench. I sold the non-running 72 C20 Highlander big block truck. Sometimes it is hard to part with a truck but it will help fund the other projects. I think the 69 is next on the chopping block. My kids have gone from ages 4-7 and 7-10 since I have had it and are very fond of the truck which will make it a hard one. I did get a bunch of parts for the burb from the brown Santa a couple of weeks ago that I hope to install soon. Stay tuned.

I had a couple of broken exhaust bolts and had to remove a head to get them out so I removed both heads. This is what the block and heads look like. Any suggestions as to what you might do if you had it this far apart? I do have a new Edelbrock carn and intake and a new distributor. I was removing the exhaust manifold to replace with headers when I rean ito my problem.

I can't edit previuos post to add pics. I am gonna get some different valve covers. It has been a while since I have reinstalled heads. What type of thread selants do I need and does I still need that copper spray of do the new gaskets eliminate the need?

Hunting a head bolt and then everthing gets buttoned up. What can I use to clean the old fluid out of the inside of the pump?

jbclassix 02-06-2012 08:51 PM

Re: Some progress pics.

Take it apart by removing the fitting and the 2 studs... the re-seal kit is 7 bucks and WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD over and over again! You can then wipe out the sump and clean off the pump.

Once it is installed, use Dextron, not power steering fluid.

Is a puller of any type needed or does it just come apart? Thanks KT

The next time I see the burb it should be a running driving truck with a 4.5/6" drop. Very excited.

That is exciting! What components are you using? C-notch? Motor looks good, too. Based on the wet pics, this one needs the CLR treatment and a good wax/buff :chevy:

It do believe the CLR treatment is in its future. I robbed some parts that were intened for the SWB so it is a little mix and match.

Suspension:

ECE spindles
ECE super track bar
CPP Drop trailing arm cross member
CPP Billett carrier bearing
KYB shocks
Brothers 2" front & 4" rear spings (2" drop blocks from Boris)
ECE lowered front sway bar
ECE shock relocators
CPP C-notch

Brakes:

All new lines and all new stock componets for brakes.

new rotors
new calipers
all new hoses
new bearings
new drums and wheel cylinders
pads and shoes
new CPP master cyl, prop valve, booster set up

Rebuilt entire front suspension and new trailing arm bushings.

I am adding a rebuilt tilt with Camaro comfort grip wheel. We are also replacing the TH350 with a 700 R-4 using CPP tranny mount and bushing with new cooler and lines. I am also going to run the same Maradyne electric fan set up Mike is running on Cloud 9 and installing new gas tank and lines. I am keeping my fingers crossed that there are no motor probs but the motor is clean on the inside. If it does have some kind of major engine problem I will replace it with a 260 hp GM crate.

I can't remember where I got the tank from but it is an OEM replacement.
