Bought this Blazer on Ebay back in February. Decent condition and decided to go hot rod style with it. We'll see how it turns out!

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go 5.3 4L60
I purchased the engine(5.3) and tranny(4l60e) last week for $1000 even. My issue now is tying everything togetherwhile keeping the original np205 transfer case. At this time I'm getting ready to purchase the advanced adapters shaft http://http://www.advanceadapters.co...ts/pn-50-6900/
and the 4l60e kit http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/pn-50-0405e/ Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing. Also I've been advised that will need to lift the truck 3 to 4 inches to create clearance from the front differential. I have also been advised that the engine will have to moved 2 inches to the front to keep the original shifter in its place. Thanks in advance! Posted via Mobile Device |

Here is a teaser the top is finally painted!!
Let me know what you guys think. Sorry for the bad quality it was taken with a phone camera. |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Dropped off tranny and TC at the repair shop today. I printed out the thread " The Alien" had created an gave it to technicians. The Alien has a good thread on how to mate a 4l60 to an np205, a lifesaver to say the least.
At this time I need help on coming up with lift-tire-wheel combinations for the blaze. Post your pics or advise on what you think would work. Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Guys I was thinking about this set up for the wheels and tires. Let me know what you think. |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Looks like a cool build! I'll follow along! Top looks good. And while I personally wouldn't run those wheels, they will look tough with those tires!

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Thanks VA72C10,
I appreciate your honesty on the wheels. What type of wheel/tire combo do you think looks good on these types of blazers? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
I like the "classic" wheels on these Blazers. Steelies with the smaller hubcaps, 73 and up ralley wheels, ET slotted mags, 10 holes, etc.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Great suggestions on the wheels71swb4x4. After seeing several wheel options I still don't know what to purchase. I hope others post their opinions and also some pics of their favorite wheel-tire combinations.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Here's one similar to the one you posted. It looks good. I just have another look I picture in mind when you say "hot rod"

Unless you plan on lowering the truck, which I assume you're not based on the tire itself, I personally think its a bit too much rim diameter for the tire size. The pic above has similar rims and tires, but he's running a larger tire. |

@ AJs72K5,
I was thinking the same about the tire wall. The pic that I showed was of a 20" wheel on 33's. I am interested in finding a picture with an 18" wheel on 33's. I appreciate the help. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Nice Ride blue_69,
What tires you running with the Mazzi's? Also, what lift is on the blazer? Looks great! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Well I'm a little disappointed due to the fact that the transmission guy didn't want to risk cutting into the stock transfer case adapter. After confirming what I need to do with Advanced Adapters, it's off to the machine shop to get the adapter cut.
I would like to add that the transmission has been rebuilt and the output shaft on the 4l60e has been replaced with the one from AA. I have pics of the transmission yet can not upload with the iPad. Don't ask me why, can't figure how to do it. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Seems a little more modern then i like, but none the less, looks like it will be a cool build! Looking forward to updates!

Well had to go out of town for a couple of weeks but I'm back now and ready to continue working on the Blazer. Here are the pics of the 4l60e with the new shaft installed. It's all rebuilt. Also in the pics is the original np205 tranfer case. As I had mentioned I will need to take it to the machine shop to get it cut.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Looks good and nice blazer. Looks pretty rust free?
Advance adapters sells a transfer case adapter made of aluminum (or they did when I did mine) 50-5302 Even that one still need a little machining for the speed sensor. Did you also get the 6 bolt to 4 bolt adapter that goes between the transmission and transfer case adapter that is also the location for the speed sensor? 50-0405 I also believe you have to get rid of the bearing supported couple in exchange for the non bearing supported couple 52-9503. I believe this is neccesary to accomodate the reluctor wheel (that you have installed) and the speed sensor that goes into the 6-4 bolt adapter. At one point they had a kit 4l60205 or ? that had all the parts in it. It was a little cheaper than buying them all seperately. Funny thing is there transfer case adapter has a larger thread size for the shifter and I had to have a bolt and spacer machined. I have been driving the Jimmy for a little over a year and it is a blast to drive. Good luck and I will be following your build. |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
The Alien,
Yes the blazer was over all rust free. It was a great find. I am the third owner of the vehicle and the second owner only had it for three months. Advanced adapters did not have the the entire kit; I had to get each piece separately. Yes I do have the adapter that ties the transfer case and tranny together. I wanted to try to use the stock transfer case adapter and cut it the .625" the instructions suggest. As you mentioned, I will have to remove the the bearing module inside the adapter and replace it with the non- bearing one from AA. I was informed that I will also have to cut the non- bearing coupling by .500" on the transmission side. Does this sound similar to what you did with your truck? I appreciate any suggestions or comments you may have. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Yes, I did have to cut my coupler and it is HARD. I wouldn't take the whole .500 off yet though. I would trial fit and measure, measur, measure. You can always cut more off. It is a pain to piece everything together only to have to take it apart again and again LOL. I was working by myself and must of had my engine in and out 8-10 times building and designing my crossmember.
Once you have taken the .625 off the face of the adapter you may have to grind/cut/machine a spot for the VSS. I used theirs so I did not have to machine the front of the adapter and taking the .625 might be enough for the VSS clearance. You will know soon as you bolt the 4-6 bolt adapter on. I am pretty sure the seal is on the next step on the adapter so the .625 might not have to be "machined"? Maybe just a grinder? I put my VSS on the wrong side of the 4-6 bolt adapter and it is very close to the shifter. It works but would be better on the other side. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and if I can I will help. |

My buddy some sent me some pics of the truck. Cant wait to go and see it in person. I had the interior sprayed with Rhino Lining before it was painted. It looks like it might need a touch up. Also, it has the dash pad from LMC installed.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
Nice progress! looking really nice. As for the rims I like them Old School. Running some 33's or 35's BGF Muds with some 15x12's MT Classic II's or better yet MT Challengers (No Longer Made)

Have you thought about talking to the Guys at Advanced Adapters? They may have an adapter for that transfer case to the overdrive tranny. Just a thought. |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
@ Tom Vogel,
I purchased all of the parts they,AA, suggested. I will call them back today, perhaps I missed something. I am planning on cleaning the transfer case adapter this afternoon and taking it to the machine shop tomorrow. Let's hope that works out as planned. I have read that people paint or powder coat the transfer case. Please provide information if you guys have done this or seen it done on this web site or any website for that matter. Thanks. |
Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go
@ CTENTA1,
Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards the 33's for the Blazer. I just can't decide if I should go with 20" wheels or smaller. I know everyone is thinking that 20" wheels will look weird but I think they might work out. Still Undecided!!! |

I worked on the transfer case for a while on Thursday. Being the novice that I am to this type of thing I was intigued to find out what the "NP" on the transfer case stood for. But now I know it stands for New Process, I think! I am still working on how to remove the internal piece of the TC adapter in order to install the one from AA. It has a small washer that looks like it needs to be removed first. I will have to try and remove it later this week. While I planned to take the adapter to the machine shop on this past Friday, my 51%, AKA the wife, had other plans for my weekend.
