Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

I bought this body a while back from a board member with the intent of building a crew cab. It sat at my father-in-laws house until I was back in Cali. I hadn't planned on starting any work on this build until my Suburban was done. But since the burb is sitting in CO, blocked in by construction, and since funding for the trip is building very slowly, it was time for me to get working on another project.

The suburban body was rugged. while I was marking for cutting I inspected every panel that was coming off to see if there was anything that I could sell, and there was NOTHING. This was the roughest body I have seen!

The truck I also got from a board member. This cab is another rough piece. Exterior rust was minimal, but the floor and kick panels were rotted.

The green doors are only on there for measurements!

4-6 lift depending on looks, long bed on a 77 chevy chassis. Not full show, but since this truck is going to be my rolling business card, I am aiming for flawless. I also plan on getting this truck built as fast as cash flow allows. My brother will be the proud owner. Right now we are looking at a 6BT for it. We have a line on a frame if the price is right.

There's no stopping on the crew cab, the body is coming off the dual turd. It will get single rear wheel axle and a slight lift.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Are the cab dimensions going to be about the same as the square body crew cab?

Almost... the bed will be in the square body location, the cab is getting stretched 3 inches in the rear doors, and the front axle will be 1.5 inches forward in the wheel well. The cab floor is getting put together now. It takes a long time to drill out all the spot weld holes with just a drill!

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Well at this point it doesn't look like much, if not less. I have been extra meticulous on measurements. I also got the roof skin cut off. Now that I have the floor mapped out for what we want, I can build a frame inside to keep everything where I want it. I also stripped down the doors so I can start cutting them up. Once again, I may be going overboard on measurements.

On another post you were asking about leg room in the back, maybe you can extend the cab a little like this one.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

I am adding 3 inches into the rear doors. Once I set the cab on the frame you guys will see why. I found a set of SRW hubs for the Dana 60 front, but they are Dodge externals, so I am having second thoughts about that set... We'll see.

Took a day to mess around with the turd tugger so that my brother could drive it until the body was done.

I guess I could actually remember to take pictures of what I have been doing... I got the door skins off as well as some of the pieces cut for the dash. No more goofing off now that the owner is watching, huh!

ThreeQtr, where did you find that truck? It's very impressive. I'd like to know more about it.

Jeremy it looks like you've got a battle plan, looking awesome. I'm along for the ride! Keep it up

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

OK, this has nothing to do with this build thread, but I am pretty sure that this is the same truck in the picture above. Anyone else have this mid 90's magazine article?

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Jeremy, great progress! I will be watching this as inspiration to go get my burb hull and get started. My plan is like yours, add 3" in the rear door. But I also want to add the rear section like the red dually. We'll see how my sheet metal fab kills allow for that. Keep up the great work bro!

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

some progress pictures...

No welding yet, still just fitting

This is messing me all up (the front corner is not square!)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N...0/DSCN6594.JPG

My brother dropped off his front doors, which the whole cab will be built around. That is why there are no braces in the body yet. these trucks had terrible gapping, I plan to fix that on this one.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B...0/DSCN6628.JPG

Couple cuts...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6...0/DSCN6629.JPG

Random... this is where I am measuring to square up the inside of my pillars
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6...0/DSCN6631.JPG

Cut, fit cut, fit... I have a solution for the window frame now...
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-7...0/DSCN6632.JPG

Just seeing how it looks!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-u...0/DSCN6634.JPG

So my plan is to move the front edge of the window frame back one inch, and add an inch to the B pillar above the belt line... and this (along with a few other mods) should give me enough room to one piece the rear windows.
