Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
You really got that cab clean. What did you use to get it down to metal like that?
|
Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
What are your plans for it?

Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
First, I used aircraft stripper and a sanding brush attached to my drill.
Second, I will continue posting photos to try and catch up to where it is now. The avatar photo is what it looks like today.:hot: |

if that's your truck as your avatar you got the color right :D |
Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
How long have you owned the truck?
|
Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
That is the truck as it sits today. I bought the truck in 1997 and started working on it in 2001. This has been a long and hard road so far. Still need interior, wheels and tires and exhaust system.

Engine. I bought this crate motor from Doug Herbert. I got it for what I would have paid to build one myself. It is a 383 stroker with 425 HP. It originally had one demon four barrel carb but I wanted the Edelbrock endurshine dual fours manifold.

Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
What front suspension did you put on it?
|
Re: 55 Chevy stepside project
You're doing nice work on the repairs.

Cab work finished for now. Put the cab back on the frame and I was worried about how it would fit with the engine clearance. Worked out just fine. Don't pay any attention to the cooling fan I was using, it worked just fine except I couldn't drive it any farther than the extension cord would let me.

Next thing was to install the new gas tank. I am putting it behind the rear axle. It is a 20 gallon tank. I think I will need it with the engine I am running.

I also installed a fuel filter just off the gas tank. I put shut off valves on both sides so when I replaced the filter, I could close them so I wouldn't loose any gas between the tank and the engine.

The seats that I ordered came out of a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. When I got them the drivers seat had a tear in the back. I am having them re-upholstered anyway so that is not an issue right now. The drivers seat is a 6-way power heated and the passenger is a manual heated. My wife didn't like the fact that she did not get a power seat, but when she gets in, there is no reason to adjust the seat a lot anyway.

Cab came back off again to begin the body work. I closed up the gas filler hole and will install a frenched antenna.
