Spring gun.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
3 on the Tree is a pretty good deterrent. Most under 30 probably never heard of it lol.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I don't know that you're gonna get a lot of guys to advertise "how their truck can't get stolen" in this type of setting.

I prefer a sig
I think there is at least one other thread on this subject |
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
Have BCM from a 98-02 Fbody wired in...when active it kills power to fuel pump, the starter solenoid and several other systems. I also have a remote kill switch wired to several strategic systems.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
To everyone who posted what kind of gun they would use to shoot the thief, I'm a Sig man myself but,... the question was how do you protect your truck when your not around. Also, thieves don't just look for opportunity in "shady areas".
I'm looking for something that kills the ignition, locks the wheels, etc. Has anyone installed a cable operated hood release like the newer cars use? Not being able to open the hood would help. It could also reduce potential vandalism to boot. |
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
Thieves sedo look to steal in "Shady Areas".They know the people there have little worth stealing. The best way is to have a nice enough truck to enjoy but not so nice someone will steal it.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I've heard of people installing a keylock for their hood. I havent seen one in person.
|
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I hang silhouette targets that I have shot during target practice in on my garage walls.
|
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I made the first hood release so you have to pull a handle in the cab, theres a battery disconnect, and I have an electric fuel pump and I have a hiding kill switch, andi have already found out that with it off I only have to look a block away

Waay back, in my teens, my mother had her '70 Maverick painted at a local Ford dealer. There was really nothing wrong with it, other than the fact that the original paint was "dead", lost it's shine after 10 years or so. She went to pick it up and they sent the "kid" out to get it and bring it around for her. You guessed it, three on the tree, backed into a spot against the building, parked as many people do.....in reverse. Yup, the kid fired it up......right into on of those big forked fire hydrant fittings that was on that wall. Destroyed the rear of and unwrecked, fresh painted car, because he thought it was an automatic in park. Clutch pedal safety switches came much later. Heck, I bought a Mazda minitruck new in '86 and it didn't even have that yet. |
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I put the wrong shift knob on. If you put it in first gear according to the shifter you will be racing into reverse right into my garage. Thats where the 60lb pit comes into play.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
Up on 4 cinder blocks, inside a fenced yard or locked garage.
Roll-back hauler can snag your rig. Towing scams common in Chicago. |
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
go shooting and pic up all the brass you see. (even if it isnt yours) and trow all of it in the bed of your truck, when they see that they will leave it alone. worked for me when we lived in vegas....

German Shepherd Dog in the drivers seat.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I have 2 in my 71.
I have a battery kill switch and a Transmission lock out on the truck so even if they get it started they can't shift it into drive no matter what they do.;):chevy: |

Yes it is on the truck and it works. I used it everynight on the 2013 Power Tour. Even though I didn't need to I felt better at the motels knowing I did. Newer model vehicles all have it on them.;):chevy: |
Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I had a friend who has now left us that used a "Club" that went from the brake pedal and locked the steering wheel in place for his Falcon. Someone still tried to tow the car out of his drive. Luckily he had the front wheels turned sharp enough that it would have towed in circles if no dolly was used....It would've taken too much time. They left. If they did get it how would he find it??
I have thought of 2 things to deter theft in my truck and handle an incident similar to the one above. 1. Install a horn relay that connects to the ignition wire that would have to be disabled before driving the truck. 2. Cell phone type tracking device if it does get snagged so I can find, as well as police, my truck. They are cheap with cheap service costs. Look Here. I am in no way affiliated with the GPS company. Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
3 sticks of dynamite. "Touch those tanks and BOOM." LOL
I am going to look into the battery disconnect.... Mine is a 3 on the tree.....I have thought about backing it up against something, shifting into reverse, then removing the shifter. Mine comes out easily. Right now I have few worries: no seat, no gas tank, disconnected fuel line, no battery, and it seems my brakes are rusted up. |

I'd like to find a way to lock hood w/o little or no drilling.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
1 Attachment(s)
Meet Kill Switch (aka "Buster"). He cost me $20 at the local pound 12 years ago and nobody's stolen the truck, or him, yet :) (in reality, he's a cream puff - he's actually 'smiling,' not growling in the pic)

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
There are a lot of aftermarket companys making remote operated relays. Easy to hide and have a new stile key fob. I have use several on old Harleys and plan on using one on my truck.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
I use the k-9. People seem to be naturally afraid of dobermans. At 110lbs mine thinks the vehicle is his. Get too close and he barks. Get closer the snarling growling starts. Reach through the window...

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
IMHO, the best, although not a deterrent, is a LoJack type device. At about $400 it's a hard check to write but the real question is, how much is you truck worth? Think real hard, is $400 bucks worth getting it back real fast? If it moves about 100 foot without the fob you get a text, call the police and its being tracked within about two minutes of being jacked.

Re: What's your best theft deterrent ???
The mountain lion in Ricky Bobby's chevelle would be a pretty good deterrent. you may want to keep it in the bed though. On a serious note the club is about $30 and they have a great warranty; if your car gets stolen with it on they will send you a replacement free of charge.
