Blazer half cabs

Anyone know how many different companies made half cab kits for Blazers? I found one today and its all steel, (steel top and bulkhead). It seems I remember one that used a fiberglass top.

Mine is also fiberglass, I have never seen a steel one.

If you get a chance post pics of it.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. I've seen a few of the fiberglass versions and didn't realize they were still being produced. The guy is asking for 800 for this one.

That's interesting, the bulhead looks like mine.

I don't think they still make the fiberglass cabs (every few years or so I hear rumors about it, but as far as I know they don't)

Thanks, Rg

Bought a fiberglass one last year from a guy in Dallas said he was not going to make anymore materials were to high to make any money. Anyone know where you can find a bulkhead?

The bulkhead wasnt a very complicated piece to make, any sheetmetal shop should be able to bend one up for you....i sold mine to luv2xlr8, im using a pickup header panel, didnt like the way the bulkhead fit

Rustyparts had the demensions on one of his posts, i think, if not maybe you could contact craig. Dont know if blazermans panel is the same as a fibreglass one....

Youll just have to wait, and keep your eyes open. Only saw three come up for sale in the last six years, and i bought one. There was one for sale three months ago in the classified section, but i think it sold.....

If i see one, ill let you know

You could post a WTB, but you would have to be blue

He has been taking names for 10 years now, and still hasn't made any except for this one.

Somebody bought the molds from my top, i think...se if juriasic 1 has any info. on the person

That would be me. I'm having a hard time finding someone to produce 2 or 3 at a time for a reasonable price. The way it looks now I would have to sell them for 1500 each.

Hard to really tell, but can lift it myself, i would guess between 100-200

skorpioskorpio 09-12-2013 06:08 PM

Re: Blazer half cabs

That's a whole lot better than 300-400lbs.

Re: Blazer half cabs

Im thinking 200 is bit on high side, but as you say, better then 400

I don't see that being unreasonable if the quality is on par with what Jaros looks like. Is that a real number? Would it be textured or gelled at that? I assume the molds are smooth and the texture is an after the fact thing.

...and is it doable in carbon and if so how much more would that be?

mcmlxix 09-12-2013 06:14 PM

Re: Blazer half cabs

I think some carbon fiber is in order here....

Actually I would like a full top in CF....

Actually, i agree with you, not unreasonable price at all. The product is not out there in any shape or form. Just a very limited market, but with limited production numbers, that shouldnt be a problem. Shipping is the biggest cost, building a pallet and all

Boneyard 09-12-2013 08:17 PM

Re: Blazer half cabs

The tops made from the molds I bought from Jurassic-1 weight about 75lbs. The paper work that came with the molds said "should be 60-65lbs finished" but I would say 75lbs is closer. These are the same molds used by Glasstite, Creative Products, Elite Custom Products, and Minnesota Truck Products.

I would buy a lot at that price. I gave 1000.00 for one last year with out the back wall the guy says materials are more now so would be higher if he made any more.

This is probably close to what the market can handle. I've seen a few change hands at this price, including used ones. It's also not that much more than what a soft top costs nowadays, which I would consider a competing product for a lot of people.

But, on the comfort level of 40 year old heating system, i would prefer a 1/2 top that i only have to heat a smaller space

FireBros. 09-15-2013 06:53 PM

Re: Blazer half cabs

I don't need the heat down here in southeast Texas, but half cabs definitely have a cool look.

Ill agree with you on the 'cool factor', makes it much easier for an ol man to have the wind in his hair (what little i have left), plus my wifey digs convertibles

Found mine in the junkyard for 20 bucks. Truck was gone and I walked I've the end of it and was like no that can't be what I think it is. Lol. I sold it a couple years ago for 200. The guy had been looking for about 10 years for one. Weighed about 140 pounds. I carried it on my back out of the yard I pulled it from.

Yes I made your top (have you got it installed yet-how about pictures)
truckeez at yaw who

yea there's really no way someone can make stuff like the 69-72 tops for a $500.00 dollar bill, the materials have jumped way up--doubling each of the last two yrs. I have to charge $550 for the 76-91 custom cab back panels alone, and do the other pieces as add ons. i can crank out a few before it gets too cool--by early novenmber its too late.

One can always dream of a low cost option, but I think if a high quality lightweight half cab were available, you could sell them. Even at a much higher price.
