Moser Differential Cover / Porterbuilt Stage 2

Does any know if the Moser differential cover 7111 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msr-7111/overview/ clear the panhard bar on the Porterbuilt Stage 2 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msr-7111/overview/

I have not fit one up before. Do you know how much thicker it is compared to the factory cover?

It's tough to do this with only 2 hands but it is basically 1" difference....

On mine with extreme drop with inboard bags it hits when chassis is a full height but wont have an effect at ride height or aired out....jim

Honestly I don't think it's going to clear with the straight bar. :(

Would you consider a "bent" bar for clearance, given not much strength is lost?

Which kit are you running/planning on running?

nds1968 04-19-2014 02:14 PM

Re: Moser Differential Cover / Porterbuilt Stage 2

I was gonna buy the cover from Number98. I have the basic stage 2 rear suspension with air bags w/schrader valves. I'm thinking I would like adequate clearance through out the suspension travel.

PBFAB.COM 04-20-2014 10:27 AM

Re: Moser Differential Cover / Porterbuilt Stage 2

We could custom bend a bar for you. However you would need to mock the kit up with the straight bar and then get some measurements for us. Should be pretty easy. We have done it before.

Re: Moser Differential Cover / Porterbuilt Stage 2

Thanks guys for helping. I'm not stuck on using this cover so I'll have to find one that will work with the straight panhard par. Nate

The Extra-Low profile design, measures 3-3/8" from gasket surface. Nate do you think this cover will clear?

The stock cover I have is 2-3/4" from the gasket surface Nate.

I know that it is pretty tight on the factory cover.

Do me a favor and if you want the bigger cover, buy it. I will work with you in bending a bar that will fit. That way we can offer the bar to all our customers as an option. You deal with a little bit of leg work, measuring, and waiting for a new bar to ship.... and I don't have to worry about mocking it up here in the shop. Little R&D tag team. You get a bar that fits at no extra expense to you. And I get you to work for "free" for a few hours! ;)

I don't know about the stage 2 but mine fits perfect on my extreme dropmember with the outboard bag mounts. This pic is aired out but I can get a fully aired up pick later tonight if anybody needs it. Sounds like you guys devised a plan of attack to make it fit and once again great customer service from Porterbuilt helping out their clients.

Re: Moser Differential Cover / Porterbuilt Stage 2

The inboard setup is where it gets tricky...I will post pic tonight of how tight it is .....has to be completely aired up on it's "toes" to touch cover...I don't think it's a problem for me but it will barely rub...jim

Also, something to keep in mind, the trac-bar mounting bracket on the frame is located closer to the axle on the Stage 2 kits than the Dropmember kits. It is also at a different height level.

This is why there is so much less clearance on the Stage 2 kits vs the Dropmember kits.

here's the pics.....dropmember...inboard bags....shots were taken with
chassis at nearly full height....which it will really never be..let me know Nate what u think.....if mounting tabs were another hole lower may help this without bending bar........jim

Well I finally got around to mounting the rearend. Here are some pics, let me know what info you need Nate. How much clearance is adequate between the bar and cover? The bend offset maybe as little as 2" or as big as 3"

I'm also having issues with those steel and aluminum spacers. There way to tight and which ones go where? Even before PC I couldn't get them to fit.

Thanks, Nate

In the past we did not offer a "High Clearance" bar for the larger aftermarket diff covers. The straight bar only works with the factory cover.

However, we can now offer one thanks to the measurements and help from another stellar forum member! :metal:

It isn't a "production" piece yet, and won't have it up on the site for another couple weeks. But you can email us direct and we can get you some info: sales@pbfab.com

I don't remember what brand, I've had this rearend for 5 or 6 years...it started life from an '88 Suburban and has been under a '76 Blazer and now under my '70 GMC (swapped from leaf mounts to trailing arm). Right now it has the CPP bent bar, but I am going to be putting a complete PB extreme DM chassis under it so I wanted a PB bar.

Here's a shot of it now...
