Viking 60 1959 Rebuild thread

I just found my father truck he owned when he had the local gas company
used to be a propane Tanker (with a big round tank on the back)

Last time I drove this Rig was 1978
1959 Viking 60 same age as me I need to know were i can get patch panels
.
the motor (327) has only 8,000 miles since rebuild
it came out of my 63 Impala
it was awsome to sit in it a steer it the 300 feet out of the bushes brought back alot of good memories
I used to have Rock star hair now not so much

Nice start!! As far as patch panels for the cab, they should all be the same as a 55-59 pickup.

Glad to see it out of the bushes.

BTW, it looks like you have '67 Pontiac GTO Bucket Seats in your truck. Power Buckets to boot. They are probably worth a pretty good dollar. Might help you pay for some parts, lol.

I'm so jealous, that's an awesome truck you have there. What are your plans for it.

Some of that parts are a little harder to find. things like the fenders and such....may have to make some custom parts for it

Softpatch 06-14-2014 11:15 PM

Re: Viking 60 1959 Rebuild thread

the seats are out of 64 GP
I did not get a Title and after 12 yrs in washington the title drop off the system
My plans are to make it runner and on Propane and legal.

Have it inspected by WSP and bond a title for 3 yrs then apply for a new title .
Once I get the state inspection passed
I will drive it very little then pull it apart and ground up
not for show but stop the rust

I'm going to loose the dump bed But I've got to reuse the PTO
it will be a toy not a daily driver
.
I got it home took more pictures
.
My Photobucket account took a dump will post pictures in a few
.

.
Thank again for the feeback

Interesting, mrolds88 was correct. They do look a little larger now that y'all have mentioned that, but they have the same upholstery pattern as mine. I have '67 GTO Buckets in my '68 C-30 and they are getting replace by an original Bench I have.

Edit: Make that '66 Buckets.

Bill, the only reason I knew was that they have the same side frame as the big Olds's I have.

SP I like the propane setup. I would keep that if I could. And yes I think you may need a patch panel or two. Bad part is I have a spare hood that is even the right color, but I'm way too far away for that to work out. (No solicitation of a sale).

Those blackberry bushes in the first picture look pretty typical for Vashon!

My '84 C-20 came from Vashon as well. My grandpa gave it to me last fall. It spent most of its life on the island. My grandpa lives on the east side on Ridge Road, on the way to Ellisport.

He's got cars covered in blackberry bushes too.

nice viking. yes it's a heavy hauler but if you post in the 47 to 59 forum we can give you all sorts of unwanted advice :D
if those front motor mounts are riveted in then your truck never had a foot starter, v8 trucks only had the key starter
it would have been a 283 at the time

the truck was a six with floor start till I was going to the prom in 76
my 63 impala suffered from Low oil pressure
my dad lent me his new to him 75 cutlass olds
so to repay him I gave him my impala motor This 327 he put it in here
moved the push botton to the dash
.Radiator was nabbed by MethHeads while it was out in the weeds
on the plus side the widsheild is in great shape ...go figure.?

You probably do know him. My grandpa is John Gregg. He's lived on the Island all his life. Had a car shop on his property for many years.

He owned the Vashon Chevron for about 10 years, from 1966-1975.

The tank was sound and no leak but we decided to go on the bottle
to start it
.
. We purged the system Turn, Turn, Turn,..... No fire
after a heated discussion.....
I won and put an HEI in it...the point were shot and another set
would mean another day.
I had the HEI set up on my spare 283
so threw it in...It just barely fit really close to the firewall

That green really cleaned up good. Bummer about the rust, hopefully you save most of that paint. Headlight buckets look sharp!
