1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
picked up one of my all time favorites last week.
pickup is pretty clean for a driver. paint shows better in the pictures than it really is, interior is ok, the kicker is it runs like a top! 350 engine has 42k on a rebuild, tranny has a shiftkit, recent tune-up, alignment and tires. all power accessories work including the cruise. has headers to a single 3" pipe, 10 series flowmaster, dumps just past the rear axle. needs some minor things to be perfect, on the list as of today: - blower motor - hook up power lock actuator in drivers door - dash mat - tag light in roll pan - 4-hi headlight mod with upgraded wiring - figure out why my high beams aren't adjusted great like the lows down the road: - two-tone with raptor liner rockers up to lower body line(grey or charcoal with pinstripe) - raptor line the bed in the same color - lower the rear with a 1" shackle to level out the stance - fog lights - splash guards - redo the exhaust with a better y-pipe, mandrel bends, and a different muffler now for the pics http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0b98b768.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps913af830.jpg |

Was that the one from Blue Springs? Seemed like a nice truck. It was given serious discussion at our house. Congrats!

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
so far i'm really enjoying this pickup. fixed the blower motor, tag light, and sealed up the screws on the cowl. immediate needs are a new interior door handle on the passenger side and some bushings and pins for the hinges.
i've decided leveling it with a 1" shackle isn't going to cut it, so a 2/4 drop is in the cards this winter. the frame has already been c-notched so i could go lower, but on our gravel roads i need to keep some of my clearance. i've been averaging about 15.3mpg with mixed driving. the same as my last 2009 Silverado crew cab, i can definitely live with that. i picked up a couple of factory air cleaner bases to make a custom dual snorkel set up last week. really itching to tackle that project and ditch the open element. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
this weekend swapped out the thermostat for a new 195* and fixed some grounds that were broke in the process.
also foraged around in my scrap pile and found enough pieces to weld up a tailpipe with a chrome tip. what a difference that made, makes the 10 series flowmaster bearable. i'll get some pictures when i get everything washed up. weather hasn't been favorable for keeping a clean pickup. i haven't started on the air cleaner yet, other than disassembling one of them for the spare snorkel. waiting for some super cold whether and cabin fever. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
pics of the tailpipe, i like a very clean and tucked look.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
well not much in the way of progress. with our cold weather i haven't been very motivated to fire up the heaters in the garage and go to work.
i did replace the IAC and CTS, cold starts and warms up much better now. i fab'd up some metric to sae conversion studs so i can mount the factory air cleaner and use 1/4 wing nuts. i have a fuel filter waiting in the box. the air cleaner should only take me a day to fab up, i just need to get enthused and do it. then the exhaust will be the next chore, that's also a quick day project. i'm trying to decide on the lower 2-tone color, but a gun metal metallic gray seems to be winning out. once i get the 2-tone and bed liner done, it will get lowered. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
fuel filter swapped out, last owner had installed his backwards....lovely.
purchased a factory gm temperature/compass mirror (gentex 177, 2 line display). ebay seller sent me the wrong sensor, so install was put on hold, correct sensor arrived today. hopefully i'll get some garage time this weekend to do wire it in, with pictures to follow. i put one of these in my K5 and loved having the extra info. it's always nice to know what direction you're going in a big city when you lose your bearings. we've had a lot of company, and a lot of kid activities going on, this project seems to be taking much longer than i anticipated. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
so when i bought the pickup it had a large Kicker box and 10" sub behind the seat in the middle. this was taking up valuable storage space, so i built a box for an 8" Boston Acoustic sub i had in an old bass tube. not only does it sound better, but i have freed up some much needed storage room. the box was built per cubic requirement of the sub and a sealed box.
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1zkptbgd.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psxojdhktj.jpg then i finally got the correct sensor for my temp/compass mirror and got it all wired up and installed. this should go nicely with the over head console i have planned. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8cgtgukf.jpg so now i'm on to the next project of exhaust. i was planning on putting in a Flowmaster merge and a single Dynomax Ultraflow, but know i'm considering doing twice pipes with a Dynomax Ultraflow X muffler.....haha, this is really putting a wrench in my purchasing. after that i will be doing a spring tuneup, followed by two-tone paint, and spraying in a bedliner. electric fans and 4hi HD harness will be in there somewhere. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
Good/clean looking truck. Sounds like you have some good plans for it as well.

made a quick trip to KC this last weekend to look at a different car for my daughter, ended up with 16.3mpg. not bad considering 30% of that tank was my usual dd'ing. and there were some 75mph interstate involved as well. on the exhaust, i'm 95% sure i'll be doing the single. i would love to do the dual, but realistically its not needed and it doubles the cost of the project. trying to decide between DJM and McG's 2/4 drop kits. both are similarly priced. |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
exhaust ordered this weekend, should all be here be wednesday, decided to stay with a single pipe.
-dynomax ultraflow 3", 17221 -flowmaster y-merge 2.5" inlet, 3" outlet -mandrel u's to fab everything up exhaust is always my favorite part of the build. looking forward to making this one! |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
exhaust is done, for now.
here is what i started with: http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0scjysog.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pstomjluzi.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pse6fmiefv.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psiie1o37p.jpg this is just nuts...they took the little factory head pipes, put them up in the collector, and then slobbered in 20lbs of wire to make up the difference. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psxe9o5dve.jpg |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
the old was a hodgepodge mixture of 2", 2.75", and 3" pipe.
the new is all 2.5" and 3". the dynomax ultraflow is exactly what i wanted. quiet at idle and cruise, and deep and throaty when you wood the skinny pedal. no pop, no rocks in a can sound, just deep and menacing. after it was all put together i hit it all but the muffler with some hi-temp black. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psdeialcib.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psebppfxzf.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psntmkwcht.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ayhadh1.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pswedvvhau.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pshpt52lbz.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psg1uycqm2.jpg |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
always loved white RCSB trucks
|
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
well not much to report, pickup continues to surprise me. 16mpg average running the ac everyday. painted the chrome center caps satin black around the base to try something different.
here are the last single color pictures you will see in this thread. next pictures will be of the two-tone process. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pscqofepjp.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psbowvhd3z.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psi0drzr7e.jpg |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
Love the look of your truck. White is such a great color for these year trucks!
|
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
Thanks for the compliment, I see your OBS is "Carlos", mine is named " Ramone". White has always been one of my favorite colors on cars for some reason.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
Mine too, especially since I have moved/lived here in the south.....way easier for this displaced Yankee to keep cool.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
well i took last friday off and got to cranking on the two-tone. my worst fears on this part of the project were realized when i started sanding the passenger side cab corner...it was rusted through. so with no time to run to KC to get a patch panel, i fab'd up some pieces and made it work.
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psr3c4gjkl.jpg then taped everything off and knocked the finish down with the da. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pslkchcr0x.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psgjti9iwx.jpg 2 coats of epoxy primer http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psjufscdrr.jpg 3 coats of color http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psgennpvxi.jpg 3 coats of clear http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psucqwbig8.jpg everything but the first line of blue tape pulled, almost went back and bought a blue pinstripe i liked it so well. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psvhcdxqqf.jpg |
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
and the finished product with new husky splash guards and the red 1/4" pinstripe.
i used axis for the epoxy, and wanda for the color and clear. i did get some orange peel, but that was my fault. i cleaned both of my guns next to each other and mixed up the 1.8 needle with the 1.4 cap. with 3 coats of clear, it will wet sand/buff out just fine. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psz1qoaspu.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pshpueiybv.jpg |

thanks for the kind words cape codder and palf70step!

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
ended up putting in a driver's side interior door handle. went to get out on wednesday and the cast part came off in my hand. while i had the door apart i found out part of the reason the power door lock on that door wasn't working. the harness had been cut and it wasn't even hooked up. once it was rewired, the popper is weak and won't pull the lock mechanism either way, so it looks like i'll be replacing that one of these days.
|
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
I also got to dig me up some interior parts next time I go junkin.
|
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
picked up another set of 454ss/sport wheels last week. came with chevy gold caps, lug covers, and good tires. just needed one for a spare. they are a decent set and i stole them, i may keep them and play with wheel colors. i would really like to put on a set of oobs truck rally wheels painted white. but i do love the 454ss/sport wheels. might just try some spinner add on's to the center caps and see if i want to keep them.
|
Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
I love the old 15x8 Ralleys on these year trucks. That 1" extra rim width makes a huge difference in the ride and handling, even with the same size tires. The look, painted stock or some other color always look great to me. Yours will look real good with the white.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
I like the rally wheels because they don't look like the alloy rims found on 95 % of the vehicles on the road today. I painted the stock steel wheels on my truck red and added chrome rings and center caps. I get comments on the wheels every where I go and some are from people that are not car people.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD
so i'm throwing one more set of wheels into the ring. western wheel cyclones in a 15 spoke, or a similar turbine wheel. i really like the look of the appliance/w.r. grace "turbine" style wheels also. i like my vehicle to be different and i generally don't care if anyone else likes the way it looks. i'm old school and not into big wheels, but like period correct looks, or bare bones style. 15x8.5's are the size i'm shooting for, and i will keep them whether i sell the pickup someday or not. eventually i will build a 73-87 rcsb for a dd and these will be my choice of wheels.
i generally drive 'odd' vehicles that you don't see everyday for a dd. take for instance my 78 el camino ss with snowflake wheels, a shaker hood, and a factory 4 speed. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...S/100_2028.jpg or my 82 2wd K5 jimmy http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps873f7f58.jpg |
