1958 fleetside air ride build
4 Attachment(s)
Back again. Starting with a 58 cab and fleetside bed with trim. I plan on going with Camaro clip and air ride again. I am getting cab blasted tomorrow and ordering a new front clip to save some time. Stay tuned.Attachment 1517007

Started on doors. I removed bottom panel that was rusted so sand blaster can knock out rust inside. That's it for now. I will post more photos tomorrow after the blasting is complete.

I really liked your last build. I'll be watching this one.. How did you like the shockwaves on the camaro clip? Going that route again with this one?

Re: 1958 fleetside air ride build
Repairs look good.
If the pics are from your phone I think you need to rotate them before posting. Kim |

I got some more work done today. noticed a gap on the new rockers on the backside. I found that a few others have ran into the same issue with new rockers as well. I guess they aren't a wide as original. I will trim this and fit it properly when I remove the cab corner.

What I've done on the ones that have that gap is trim the front of the rock a bit and take a wide blunt chisel and drive the 90 degree corner back a bit. You can also slit the back edge and move that forward a bit and it usually all lines up. don't move it to far or the door edge will not look right on the rocker.
I've taken some apart that had that gap so I think its just how the trucks were made some times |
Re: 1958 fleetside air ride build

Re: 1958 fleetside air ride build
I didn't know that they make a rear floor panel. Can you please share where you found it at?
Thanks |
Re: 1958 fleetside air ride build
thanks guys.
Crash, it was from a complete lower floor pan. my buddy need the front half, I just needed the rear. worked out perfect. I will say that replacing just the rear half, your going to have issues with the stamping. I had to modify that back section where the cab mounts are to make everything line up. I do have a used section from a parts cab already cut if your interested. let me know. |

dropped in scotts hotrod crossmember. I used TCI's ifs measurements for aligning the centerline. it moved the wheels 1 inch forward to better fit the fenders. I measured 20 7/8s from the original front leaf spring mounting hole to get the new center line.
