Looking Good , Nice project . How long has it taken from field to now ?

Two things I'd shorten the steering column and raise the seats so you are looking out of the center of the windshield .

Keep on Trucking' :)

Re: 1951 long bed build

Haha that all dependa on preference and being im 6'5 i dont need to raise the seat im actually seeing part of the sun visor in my vision and the steering colomn could shorten a hair but it feels good if i go much lower i hit my legs on the wheel when i sit in it. I started working in october but had to stop for a bit when i wrecked the bike.

Ok, ok, whatever you say! I'm only 5'-10" (on a good day anymore). If you're THAT big you can do whatever you want!

Well today i got the wire harmess in and mostly hooked up the good part was it turned over with the key. Just have to get fuel lines routed and extend wire harness to the fuel pump.

What is everybody putting for a radiator in these looking to do electric fans also?

Mw548 06-27-2017 11:15 PM

Re: 1951 long bed build

Well got tranny lines and coolant lines hooked up and after starting it and letting it run have no leaks. I did have to fab a tee for piping on heater core due to the s10 factory radiator is where one of the heater core lines ran. I ended up using a 1965 mustang radiator with internal tranny cooler and electric fan setup.

Hey dude if you put a SBC between your legs, you'd better be in leathers from head to toe..

Hope no broken bones and the least amount of "road rash"!!!

Fun, fun, fun build

Keep on keepin on

I like this build. I am doing a 52' 3600 my bed isn't that long though you must have found a rare extra long bed. Very Cool build I am tagging along for sure.

Re: 1951 long bed build

Took the driveshaft up to the driveline shop tuesday and had them add a 27 1/2" shaft to the front and a carrier bearing. I now have a two piece driveshaft cuz of the length. I finished welding in the carrier bearing support. I also cut down the factory shift linkage and drilled a a new hole in it. I hooked up the factory shift linkage. Its a little stiff but its actually not that bad for what it is.

I like it. I also did a 51 about 30 years ago. Lifted it and sat it on a later model 4X4 chassis. Drove it for a couple years to shows and cruises.
Don't hardly ever see a long bed in these years.
Good for you. Project is coming along nicely.

Well its official a little under a year and this truck is on the road. Still have a few things to tidy up but but overall I'm happy with it. I just finished wiring the led light bar in for tailights and rebuilding the steering column to fix the loose tilt. Found one of the bolts came loose and fell inside column which was causing a stiff shift linkage and random binding in steering wheel when turning. Also finished installing headlights and trying to figure out front turn signals.

My water pump was leaking and I decided to replace it. New pump made it 6 miles and the shaft snapped off damaging my radiator and cooling fan. 😡

Well with a few things left to do i started to find another project and ran across a 1930 Tudor model a that i decided to build. I know it’s a ford but i have always loved the look of the channeled model a.

Love the Tudor! I was so torn when I was first choosing a car to build between a ratrod tudor or the pickup truck. I love the highboy roadsters. Pretty much anything with the engine sticking out like a hot wheels car. You could still chevy it up with a sbc 350 haha. I chose the truck because I can use it to haul parts for future builds. Oddly I haven't looked at the tudors in some time and I'm not nearly as scared to tackle one as I was a year ago.

Got the body set on the frame about ride height. Did a double z frame with a 4/12 drop. Been craigslisting this week picked out a unique drivetrain. Putting a 472 Cadillac big block turbo 400 trans and a rear end from a 1978 f150.

Re: 1951 long bed build

That Cadillac is a torque monster! Don't over rev it and it will hold together forever. There is actually a great aftermarket for them. With an aluminum intake they weigh close to a SBC.
