Mirror thread

Its seems to be too broad of a search when I google search the board.

Is there a thread that goes over all the different styles of mirror? The ones that came on the truck, or ones you got from the dealer. Not talking about anything you got at the auto parts store, or came on a different brand of truck.

Hit me with a link and Ill delete this thread ... Or maybe this can be the thread that has it all.

Standard or sport mirror
I believe only on 71/72 trucks
Not listed on spid because it was the base mirror

Following. Been debating myself. I have plans to tow and daily the truck. Have been looking for a set of painted west coast jr mirror but very little luck. Ford versions for sale all day long. GM, nope.

Below-eyeline mirror
I believe 72 only
Listed on spid as DG4
Pic is of 72
Very specific in that the top screw mounts up very close to glass

Camper mirror
DF2 on the spid
I believe this pic is also 72 only
Due to the fact the 2 lower arms are rolled at the bottom
And mount at the curved seam of the door

West coast-DG5 on spid
Sometimes called W/C MIRROR-SR
I think they were offered on most years 67-72
69-71 for sure

These I'm not sure about

Anyone know what they are?
They're on an original 72 motorhome
The weird part is spid says DF2 Camper mirrors
Maybe not original doors??

Re: Mirror thread

So far Chevyland has shown:

* 71/72 standard mirrors everyone likes to call Sport mirrors that I always called car mirrors (standard 67-70s are what I call stick mirrors)

* 72 style DG4s

* 69-72 DF2 stainless camper mirrors (painted were DF1)

* 67-72 DG5 Sr West Coasts Only painted offered

* B38 bus-type extension mirrors. Those could be aftermarket but that's what the bus mirrors look like. I'm not sure about years they were offered. These I am most unfamiliar with.

There were D29 RV Jrs in 67/68, which are the mini west coasts. They were only offered painted.

There was a standard mirror dual rear 1t trucks that are sort of like the standard 67-70s, but way longer

My son has those mirrors on his 70 GMC camper special, however the original ones were painted, we have the stainless ones on there now...

Thank you, I bought my '71 with add-on trailer mirrors and the rubber plugged holes where the sport mirror was and wasn't sure what was supposed to be there. When I had the doors apart I found the rusted and drilled out screw plate in the bottom of the doors so I knew they were removed later in life. I installed repop sport mirrors and stuck on a mirror size convex on the right side and they work fine for normal driving but I didn't know these were standard as the spid says nothing. Good thread guys, thanks!

Would you mind posting a picture of your right side mirror with the convex attached? I've considered doing something like that myself

I'll get a pic tonight and send it but it is a napa #12164 if you want to look it up. Think it is a Grote number.

Here is a picture of the mirrors on my '69 K20. The spid code is D29 - R/V Mirror-JR.

I found a closer up shot of the mirror. You can see the upper mount is folded down. These mirrors were originally white, along with the bumper.

Question, does anyone know if you can get replacement rubber molding for these mirrors?

Just for reference I'll throw in my chromed West Coast Seniors. Not stock to chrome them, nor cheap, but I like the look!

Here is a picture of my stainless West Coast Junior. I believe if they were ordered from the factory as the D29 option they would have been painted white.

Those are standard mirrors from 69-70
I'm not sure if they were on 67-68

They have round mirror heads
I'm not sure if trucks were always round?

My 70 suburban and 70 blazer
Both had rectangular mirror heads

Again not sure if trucks were round
And suurban/blazer were rectangular

Pretty sure these were always painted body color
And not in chrome unless aftermarket
Maybe someone can confirm!?

Things can get pretty convoluted with these codes and mirrors. I never realized. You have a '69 with D29 for RV JRs of a different style than prior years. I have a '70 SPID with DG4 w/c mirror-jr-lh&rh and a '70 or '71 SPID with D29 below eyeline mirror. These are all the same mirror as on your '69. I'll guess the SPID with D29 is a '70. It's dark green with a 350 which could be any of the three years here.

Only painted mirrors in 67/68, then came stainless option on RV Jr/Below Eyelines and Camper mirrors

You are right Special-K. I think this is why this thread may be so popular. More guys need to post pics too.

My full spid says D29 R/V Mirror - JR-L & R

Like specialk said it's not all straight forward

My first several posts were all 72's
It seems like there isn't much discrepancy by the time 72 came around

Here is another example of outfield/specialk quandary
A 71 with DG4's listed as below eyeline

The same mirror listed as D29 RV on outfields 69

I am unable to get pictures from my camera to my laptop ever since an update...and it sucks! Everything has been fine with this computer on Windows10 till they force some update that renders my computer useless as a picture source. Guess I'll go buy some film!

That looks really good! Thanks for posting the picture. I'll have to see about getting one of those. The right side sport mirror is fairly useless as it is.

Re: Mirror thread

Some aftermarket 71/72 mirrors get loose and floppy in short time. I hope you got a good one with the added weight of the spot mirror. Not trying to br negative, I think it's a great and useful idea. Just beware of low quality mirrors

Just put these sport style mirrors on mine, was worried about the lack of visibility from the passenger side that has been stated. I got the "objects are closer than they appear" version, i.e. convex, and can see just fine. Got them from ClassicParts.com.

That is nice. I'd be interested in your take on the quality of the mirror. I have GM originals right now, but I would consider taking off my right side mirror and putting it in storage for something like this, if it's not total junk.

Well, since they've only been on for a month or so I can't speak to longevity, but so far so good. They seem sturdy enough, no movement, and are made of metal as far as I can tell. When I bought the truck it had Ford style mirrors, really cheap plastic things that moved around a lot.
