Billet hood hinges
Hey all.
I was wondering if anyone has used used billet hood hinges like EMS Or the LMC billet hinges? I like the black ones from LMC but need to know if they fit well. LMC billet hood hinge If you have used them please post pros and cons plus pictures? Please no stock steel ones. Thank you |
Re: Billet hood hinges
Nice hinges...I'm the market as well....but those are a little rich for my blood...

Re: Billet hood hinges
I agree they are expensive. I am hoping to see options for hinges over the stock ones.

Re: Billet hood hinges
Check out these on EBAY, I don't have them but been looking at them.

Re: Billet hood hinges
I watched a video on youtube awhile back showing the replacement of stock to the upgraded expensive billet hood hinges. They are apparently an easy replacement, zero modifications and because of a few oval shaped mounting holes, they are great for finding and adjusting for the perfect fit. Plus they will never bend/warp or distort like the stock hinge will over time. I would suppose its a good long term investment, but damn that's a l lot of money for a hinge. Especially with an old beat up truck like mine, it'll be a long while before a $600 dollar hinge is needed.

SIXTY9, FYI that price on eBay is without shocks, so it is going to be more by the time you add them.
Here is a pic of my Eddie Motorsport hinges. They are nice, but they are just as difficult to adjust. I have adjusted mine twice, and I am still not where I want to be with the hood. |
Re: Billet hood hinges
Zeroman,
Yes I forgot to say that about the shocks. I was going to get the measurements and order them thru McMaster-Carr if I decide to go with them. Thanks, Wally |
Re: Billet hood hinges
I've heard some of them won't mount with the stock heater box in place, but it seemed to me that the LMC one did. There is a good youtube video of the install. They look pretty good..

Re: Billet hood hinges
I would love to have a set for my 71 but man those things are way up there.
They would look nice but just can't see that kind of money for them. Not yet anyways. Do they need shocks as well???? E bay description isn't very clear. DESCRIPTION FITS 1967 - 1972 Chevy GM Truck THESE HINGES ARE BILLET ALUMINUM, BLACK COATED. THESE HINGES HAVE PLENTY OF ADJUSTMENT SO YOU CAN GET YOUR HOOD TO LINE UP PERFECTLY, BETTER THAN ORIGINAL HINGES. NOTE:This is a version without shocks included in the package. |
Re: Billet hood hinges
I understand concerning the cost. I picked these up of off craigslist. The fellow who had purchased them, mounted them, then decided to bag his truck. He had to go with firewall mounted hinges, so he was not able to return them. I just got lucky.
All hood hinges would need either a spring, or shock. The hood is too heavy. That is why the eBay description says "does not include shocks". You have to buy those separate. The problem with buying them separate is that you do not know what rating of shock you need. If you go to the Eddie Motorsports website they talk about whether, or not, the hood is stock, cowl, or fiberglass because they have different shock ratings for the weights of the hoods. Too soft of a shock the hood will not hold itself up. Too stiff and you might have issues with opening the hood....the latch may get stuck. |

I used the Eddie Motorsports hinges on my truck. I got them from a vendor on this site... best price I found.
I like them. I've got a smoothed firewall as well, so not sure about the heater box but nothing along those lines was asked, so I assume they would work? You could call them and ask... |

Re: Billet hood hinges
Hey guys doing a little research. The eBay hinges are from demotor performance they have warehouses in Georgia and California. But sure they are imported in.
Here is a link to the hinges from ther website demotor hood hinge And here is the link to the shocks 300# demotor hood shocks Under 400$ so this maybe an option over the 650$ plus EMS. I was hoping someone would have tried these or the LMC ones. Also your truck engine bays look great and worthy of 650$ hinges. That is my goal :D |
Re: Billet hood hinges
Well I guess the shock I referenced above will not work with the c10 hinges and they don’t have the ones that do. So waste of time. For the eBay ones.
|
Re: Billet hood hinges
I emailed Demotor and they sent me this link with the hood hinges with the struts. Their email is support@demotoring.com and they will email the link to the hinges.
|
Re: Billet hood hinges
I had messaged them on eBay and they said they don't have the shocks for c10 hinges. just the hinges..... Let us know what they say! thank you!

I’ve got the eBay ones, but mine came with shocks. I haven’t installed them, so I can’t attest to there functionality.

They also look like they come with SS hardware. Is it polished or machined? |

Here are a couple of pictures of the shock. The hinges seem to be a very solid build, but I’ve only played with them not installed them.

Fesler and Ring Bros also make some nice ones.

Re: Billet hood hinges
I bought the entire silver line series for under the hood on my build, they make some pretty great stuff, I really like the fact that I can make all the components flow with each other I guess. THe hinges tying in with the serp system and reservoirs and what not looks super clean to me

Re: Billet hood hinges
Hey guys update for me. I ended up going with EMS hinges. Got a great deal on them from a forum sponser Matt’s classics. Since I am going with a dark blue I decided to go with bling and ordered the polished hinges.
