Custom made emblems?

I don't know anything about machining or casting or any of that stuff.

Ive seen a thread here where one of the members was making custom engine size emblems ... LSX etc. Seems to be super hard to get ahold of this guy of late though.

If you wanted some custom CHEVROLET type script, a console emblem, or even a glove box emblem, where the heck would you start your search?

Ive seen some of those high end car builders on TV put custom script on their cars that looks factory.

Re: Custom made emblems?

There was a guy in Canada making them, he quit. There's currently someone else making them. I will try to find that thread, and bring to top...

Mark, along for the ride on this thread. Thanks for posting this. Have a thought on a couple custom made Chevrolet styled scripts myself I'd like to have made if feasible.

I had these emblems made from scratch, starting with a 3D artist. I've got about $600 into it and and not totally happy, so it's an expensive route...

Here you can see the repro on the left and the original on the right. It'll do until I find a real one, but not perfect.

Re: Custom made emblems?

Didn't you start a thread a while back asking where custom emblems could be made? I remember posting this place. Maybe they only do plastic or have large qty minimum? I didn't see anything about those things when I looked

http://www.chromeemblems.com/?gclid=...FYqQHwoddScELA

EDIT: Ok, I see they don't actually do "custom" emblems. The custom make specific things per order from their selection. Not what I was thinking.

There was a member, user name "Shortie" that made custom emblems, He has not been heard from for a long time, someone else posted here lately that they make custom emblems, have not found that post yet...

I haven't had any made by Billet Badges, www.billetbadges.com , but they make some really nice aluminum emblems.

3D printing might be an option. A lot of schools and colleges are doing this.

You might drop Hart_Rod a PM to see where he got his made. The ones on his Superburb were great!

It won't be long before this becomes commonplace in our hobby.

One-off or small batch runs for custom parts or out-of-production parts. Huge opportunity for someone.

I have designed a tag I'd like to make, never thought about somebody else doing it. This is a take-off on the classic 'Fuel Injection' script from the 50's. Will be watching this thread...

Re: Custom made emblems?

I think this topic is interesting. I have seen this video posted by thehomefoundry on youtube:
https://youtu.be/av2YrBBrkP4

BigEstudios made a comment on the 2nd video in the series 2 years ago:
Hello, can you make a custom cast car emblem for me? It's a copy of an original emblem with one number changed. I can provide an original emblem to use as a starting point. If you can, we can discuss privately. Thanks.

thehomefoundry told BigEstudios to send him an email and gave his email address.

davepl, it looks like this process would make an exact duplicate.

Looked into that but biggest issue there seems to be a minimum part order of 50 pieces. I only need two or possibly four total with two actually being spare pieces for a "just in case" scenario.

The "carburation" script is similar to what I am wanting for my custom script except I am wanting a "Dual-fours" script. In the same font and styling of the old "Fuel Injection" script Chevrolet had in the mid 50s. Being my current project is the restoration of my '57 Chevy 2 door, 283 with dual 4 BBL carbs. Expect will cost a bit of $$ but can't justify ordering 50 pieces when I only need/want a pair.

Re: Custom made emblems?

Got a reply back from RAD Machining for my request. Two custom made emblems of my size and font, a bit on the North side of $400. Ouch, not sure I can justify that expense with so many other more important needs for my '57. Just wanted to report back what I have found so far. :waah:

I would think that "Lost Wax Casting" would work good for the emblems and stuff. You would have to have a pattern but you can get some amazing detail with it.

Leon, that's part of the problem in my case. I don't have an original to mold from as it is a totally custom styled emblem. Wish GM/Chevrolet would have thought to make a "Dual-fours" scripted emblem for the 283 as they did for the "Fuel Injection" script emblem in '57. Would have made this whole process so much easier if I could find an existing set of emblems. :waah:

IF ANYONE KNOWS OF AN EXISTING EXAMPLE OF A ''DUAL-FOURS'' SCRIPT PLEASE PM OR POST HERE !

Have not contacted them yet. Will give them a try and report back here again. The CNC world is something I am not at all familiar with. Care to give the short version of what CNC can accomplish?

dmjlambert 10-07-2019 09:58 PM

Re: Custom made emblems?

CNC is essentially a robotic router. Much like a 3D printer, except instead of depositing material, it carves out material. Once the emblem is made, if duplicates are wanted, lost wax casting can be used to make duplicates.

I had a buddy who runs a cnc machine make the custom horn button for my gmc steering wheel so I assume someone with one could make a emblem. This was made from stainless but could use other metals as well he said.

Re: Custom made emblems?

Saweeet! I still have that other custom horn button you did. And just last weekend sold the N30 wheel I had to restore (along with the '67 Camaro floor shift column it was on). I want to find a better one to restore or buy one already done.

Anyway, back to custom emblems. I'm sure they could be done on a CNC machine.

Looked into the www.pidplates.us a bit further. They attach by an adhesive foiled backing which I am reluctant to do after new paint on my 57. Body of the 57 at rear quarter panel has four small holes for attachment pins which would use an original 14'' long Chevrolet script. Want to pick up on those 4 holes making the custom script removable with little to no damage to the new paint if careful enough in removal. Will continue looking for more options but thanks for the link.

How about attaching the 'new' emblem to a base that mounts to the body the way you want? I would investigate a base that can be made using thin enough material w/some studs bonded/tacked on. The studs could use speed nuts or something similar.

Re: Custom made emblems?

The emblem could be removed without any damage to the paint if removed right and you could cover the holes with it also. Having a base made could work also as stated above.:chevy:

Actually what you propose is my alternate / back-up plan. With the script actually engraved within the base plate. Thinking a brushed or polished aluminum or stainless plate with the attaching studs on the back. The original script attaches with studs and barrel nuts. That idea is starting to look more feasible, just not ready yet to give up on the lettered script idea.

Re: Custom made emblems?

When Harley was selling reproductions of their early emblems to install on the later bikes the emblems were actual reproductions, so could be used as replacements on old bikes mounting the original way. For the new bikes they sold an adhesive mount base as an adapter. It fit within the emblem, couldn't tell
