Lower Radiator Hose...ARRRGGHH

2 Attachment(s)
I am rebuilding my truck which can be seen at the link below. I have a new 350SBC Crate motor with a long style water pump. I am using a 4 core radiator and have purchased all regular brackets, hardware etc. Upper hose, no issue. Lower hose has been a pain. I went a purchased a hose for a 71 Chevy truck and it wont fit. After going to some cruise this spring I have discovered that a "stock "radiator lower neck comes out and up at an angle and the radiator I have comes straight out. I am sure, or at least I hope that I am not the only one to have encountered this problem. Any ideal part number, ideas, or whatever would be great, short of telling me to purchase a new radiator.

Yep, it's a wicked bend. It will fit, you'll probably have to cut off several inches to get it to the right length.

You can take it to your local rad shop and have him shorten it and braze or solder an elbow onto it. Shouldn't cost that much.

Sorry I don't have a pic, but I recently went through the same issues with my ZZ4. I finally found a bottom hose that would work. Try a AC 24053L. If I can remember to take a pic tomorrow I'll post a pic.

Just ordered 24053L from Rock auto online. They have a close out on them. $13.50 shipped. I had the same problem with mine. I ended up having to cut the hose I had and use pipe in between. I hope this one works.

That looks like exactly what I need. I like how it rolls over the frame versus the stock one laying on the fram rail. I will try that one. Thanks a bunch.
I will let you all know how it works out.

Re: Lower Radiator Hose...ARRRGGHH

Could always stick a piece of an old hose under the new hose on the frame to keep it from rubbing. A short piece of pipe wont hurt either. Some trucks came from the factory this way.

Glad I could help. You'll notice I did use some plastic corrugated pipe over the hose to protect it from rubbing on the frame. Hope it works for you guys.

I am guessing here... But I think that is a 73-newer Radiator.
If my memory is correct... They are the same dimensions but the lower hose connection is the difference.

I also had the same issue, the rad in my truck was not stock. I ended up getting a reduced hose that fit tighter on the bottom. It worked out just fine.

I like the idea of having the rad shop ad an elbow to it. This might be a good solution also.

I think you maybe correct. I just can't remember.

Got the AC24053L off Ebay for 13 bucks. Did some small trimming and it fit perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion.

so its normal for the stock hose to be touching the frame? I dont like it. Im going to try the one above as well. I have a new alum rad but its the same as my old rad. mine has no up angle on the lower outlet.

I know this thread is a few months old but I searched Rock Auto, Napa, autozone, advance auto, and O'reilly auto parts for AC 24053L and no one had it. Any other suggestions where to get this hose? Thanks.

Nevermind...I found one.

Hey 67 cst swb, are these Gates and Goodyear part numbers equivelants for the AC Delco Hose? (same size and shape direct replacement? or just other hoses that will also fit?) Thanks,

Re: Lower Radiator Hose...ARRRGGHH

Yes, direct interchange from both respective websites.

It is simply the replacement lower hose for a 1973-1983 Chevy/GMC C10/C20/C30 2wd 350cid application
.

I also came to that later year hose as the best option. My engine sits 6" farther back and 1" lower, so I had to weld a longer outlet angled up to my aluminum rad. No rubbing anywhere.

Re: Lower Radiator Hose...ARRRGGHH

The stock factory radiators for these trucks have the lower radiator hose connection angled so the lower hose will lay right on the frame rail. Stock 4 core radiators are hard to find I think they only came on trucks that had a big block and air conditioning.

Re: Lower Radiator Hose...ARRRGGHH

I have an older 4 core radiator, don't know if its original, but its brass and it does have an angled neck. I bought the original radiator hose it lays directly above the frame rail and doesn't touch.

I am having issues with this also.I tried the Gates 20843 and the water pump end is too small and will not slip on.

I'm using the gates 20694 and it works perfectly.. When it's out of the truck it doesn't look like it will work but it does.. A local mechanic who restores 67-72 c-10's helped out when he saw I was running 2 hoses and a metal piece as my lower hose
