Replacing inner rocker
Just starting to replace innner and outer rocker on my 71. I was eyeballing, from underneath the floor pan to inner rocker area. Noticed that the forward floor brace is spot welded to the inner rocker, right below the front door pillar point. There are 2 or 3 bolt heads at the outer end of the forward floor brace. What are these bolts holding inside the rocker cavity? Are they just connected to the inner rocker, the floor brace is spot welded to the inner rocker why the bolts?

Re: Replacing inner rocker
Take a picture and circle the area. If the floor brace? is spot welded to the inner rocker then someone has replaced the cab supports in the past. The bolts going into the inner rocker are for connecting the front and back door pillars.

might want to PM a admin and ask to move this thread to paint and bodywork, you'll get more help on your subject.

Re: Replacing inner rocker
The bolts are original. They hold the inner and outer together and should also hold a bracket that reinforces the bottom fender mount.
The welds probably indicate a repair, as mentioned. When I replaced mine none of the bolt holes lined up, so I said screw it and welded everything. |
Re: Replacing inner rocker
Possible that it's not spot welded since it's still in original grease and grime. Since I can't see inside the rocker chamber I wondered why the bolts, so there is a bracket on the inside which I can't see at this point.
