"Overhaulin" 52 gmc project
 

Just wondering what everyone thinks of this truck. They grafted in 1956 Belair headlight areas on the original 52 gmc truck fenders. Then they fabricated an apron to follow the contours of a 57 Belair front bumper. I saw this episode today on overhaulin and thought it looked interesting. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also wondering if it could be done on a 51 chevy truck?? I may not be blessed with the skill to pull it off but I think it could be done.

The fenders with headlights and turn signals I like. But I would like to see more pics before I decide on the grill. Nice truck tho! :ito:

This is a really nice truck I saw it at The Brothers Truck show a couple of years ago. The graft of the 55 car front fender is nice. The grill is the GMC outer with the 55 car inside. Foose comes up with some slick stuff sometimes. He gets a little roadster happy sometimes but hey he's still the man.

My honest opinion is there is a lot of stuff on that truck that is not my taste and yet it is INCREDIBLY well executed. I'd be thrilled to death to have it. Talk about some fabrication chops! Looks like Kabwe did it! Kab's right, those are '55 bumpers and signals. It really looks like the tailgate bottom edge would bang on the rear bumper guards. Precision fit, huh?! Why do you suppose the rear wheel tubs hover over the bed wood rather than the bed wood contouring around the tubs?

Anyone beside me notice the little avatar in the lower left of the link for the new GMC Sierra? That color is Greystone metallic. I know because I have an 08 Chevy Crew dually 4x4 in that color. I noticed the intake manifold and the power steering pump on the 52 are nearly the same color. I think it looks great and gives me a nice idea for the intake on my upcoming Krylon rebuild on my 350 (ha ha).

P.S. to Kabwe, what's the latest on your build man? Enquiring (nosy ass!) so-called minds want to know!

I like the headlight treatment and the grill but the bumpers look like an afterthought especially the back bumper.

Plenty of ideas to borrow and some to see an decide that they don't look as good as they might sound but theme rigs are usually that way.

I agree about the bumper, I would have gone with the Cali one piece smoothie bumper on that truck. I not a fan of bumper guards mine will be coming off my 55 210 soon.

Because it was on overhaulin and a 7 day build you just don't have time to everything correct something has to give with a fast build. What I find wrong with the truck I chalk it up to a fast build. They could not do all they really wanted in that amount of time. But for a truck put together so fast its a hell of a build. I seen a lot worst that took years to finish. Mine may be one of them.lol

As far as my truck its coming along very slowing. That's not being nosy, knowing you guys are interested in my build keeps me motivated.lol I just posted some minor updates to my build thread if you want to check it out.

Foose is a design genius. Whether you like all of his custom touches or not, they are well done and definitely unique!

In my mind that is not even debatable. Genius is a over used term but in Chip's case I think it applies.

The bumpers would look nicer without the gaurds IMO. What did the rear bumper come off of? Is it just me or does it look like if you open the tailgate it will scrape the bumper gaurds?

Yeah, I said that in post #4 above. That bumper is off a '55 Chevy car.

I have always like this truck overall. But I'm like most of you that I would only pick and choose certain things to do to my personal truck.

I have been trying to find the episode on DVD because usually they show a little bit more of the build but I can't seem to find that episode. So for now it resides on the DVR. Since we have a '52 GMC I was trying to get some ideas but the show focused on the prank and the person more than the truck in that episode.

I agree with most of the feedback. They raised the bed 4 inches and the rear bumper doesn't look like a good fit. It was for a nomad. I'm guessing 56 or 57. I think they mounted both bumpers upside down. Seems like it took 3 1955 grills to construct the grill for this truck, probably lots of waste. Wouldn't work for my 51 chevy truck because of the contours of the grill, hood, etc. I love the way the fenders look and if nothing else I will investigate the posibility of doing that to my truck. Again I think it may be impossible using a stock grill but it's just some food for thought.

Anyway you slice it Chip Foose is a phenominal designer and builder. We all have differing tastes in what we like, but everyone can find something to like about all his projects.
