Project "Hulk Jr"

Hello guys. As some of you know I am building a truck "Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk" " which will now be a '70 K20 with a 67/68 front end and 1/2 ton running rear.

This is a new thread on the original Hulk truck....

So the story starts like this.
My son wanted a 4X4 and I told him i would not buy him one but if he could find someone to trade the 4 wheeler for it I would do it.

So what does he find..... a 68 K10 LWB 8 hours away so after a little coordination we traded the guy a 4 wheeler (Articat 500) that we never used for the dark green 68 K10 for my youngest son. He called it "the Hulk" which was the reason for the project name.
History on the truck:
I got is from the second owner and he got it from the original owner the original owner own a gravel pit at the California/Oregon border.

As I started doing homework on what was needed to rebuild the truck I figured that I did not want to tear a good truck apart to only use a few pieces for the build and get stuck with random parts. Not in a hurry I was able to locate all the parts to build a complete truck.

This thread will be on the original Hulk truck Now Named "Hulk Jr"
Its has the original 307 engine, a SM465 and Rockwell T-221. no power steering, no power brakes, 4 wheel drums. base model...

The plans are to update the running gear, braking system, add power steering and replace the front axle to get front disk brakes. The nice thing is I have most of the big parts laying around from other projects spare parts.
engine, axle, brake booster, steering box, etc. the plan is to keep stock stance
I am looking for a 700R4 and a 208/241 t-case.

I will try and post updates to this thread and not join the 2 threads.

Wish me luck!!!

This is the cluster I am going to use in the truck. Factory tach dash with a vacuum gauge. Just need to replace the bezel.

Look what I picked up.... Also picked up the np208 and 700r4 from a local wrecking yard. I got the transfer case ,trans, crossmember, shifter linkage for both. Front swaybar with brackets. And 4x4 shifter. Plus a few others odds and end. 400$
Thought that wasnt bad.

Now I have to rebuild the tc and have a trans shop rebuild the trans.

He is but I think its more about getting his license...

Should I paint the motor Chevy orange or keep it black?

Thanks guys. I asked a friend of mine why machine shops paint most engines black. He said "it hides oil leaks". I laughed, he looked at me said "I am not kidding..." So sounds like I am going to tape it off and paint it Chevy orange.....

So the New/old intake manifold I had was a spread bore and I think I am going to go with the Fitech injection system. I had to order a spread bore to square bore adapter. I spent 100$ this afternoon from Jeggs and rockauto for little things. Gaskets, fuel pressure regulator, thermostat, oil pan bolts, trans mounts etc. still need a thermostat housing. Plus I am sure I will need a bunch of other stuff....

Good choice most of my builds have been chevy orange also, I've been pondering the same question myself lately. I think your engine guy is right about hiding the oil leaks (easier maintenance) its also believed that black will dissipate heat quicker.

Here some pictures I took of the tear down of the Transfer case. Its a NP208C out of a 1986 3/4 ton Suburban with a diesel.

I did check the chain and had to order one. Inside the transfer case smelt like it got hot. Than is why I wanted to completely rebuild it. I hope after I clean it up I don't have to replace any major components

Of course i think Chevy orange is a great choice! Trust in your ability to not build a leaker! :)
