What size tires will you be running?
Did Baer finish up with your truck yet?

Yep, we are running a 20x8.5 / 20x10 setup on this truck. 245/40 and a 295/40.

Baer is just about finishing up the brake kit for us. The rear end in these trucks vary so much, so just trying to work out all the details as much as possible. The suburbans are different than trucks, blazers different than suburbans, and just no real consistency on housing ends for this body style.

Nothing yet, and just waiting for Baer to finalize our new brake kit on it. SEMA kind of backed that up a little.

They are 16's and believe 16x8's, as they were on there when we got the truck.

Almost, and I am anxious! I got word the front brakes were done, and just have to do final fitting. It has been a crazy year and developing these new systems have taken a little longer. As soon as we get it back, were going to drop it, and then right off to paint.

Any chance you may develop a rack and pinion conversion for these trucks?

Pro Performance 12-02-2016 11:02 AM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

We don't have it on our list, but can definitely look into it. Think it would be a good addition.

Put me down for one of those units if you can make it happen. Also, it suddenly dawned on me that you are in very close proximity to Fesler. His statements on Facebook lead me to believe he will make whatever for whoever as long as there is some demand and a donor vehicle to prototype the parts. I would be interested in one of his flush fit windshields and some billet hood hinges if you can make any of that happen I would be eternally grateful.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Absolutely will put you in line. It has taken longer than expected to develop the kit, but we prefer things are 100% before releasing a new product. It will require the HD 1.25" spindle though. Depending on year and configuration of the truck, you may have to change spindles.

Fesler is about an hour away. Unfortunately we have the truck scheduled to go into paint directly after brakes.

Love my truck but the steering is like driving by a rope, very sloppy.I'm sure there are a lot of folks that would line up for a kit..

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

You have convinced me, and will see what I can mock up. The use of the 79-93 rack is a great one to use, since it has easy mounting. What I find to be a issue, it the turning radius is decreased.

If we made a rack work and had to use that one, would that be a problem enough to make you not buy?

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Ok let's clarify ...

Do mean the turning radius will increase with a rack and pinion conversion?

If so, how much is the radius increased by?

Also , how would address bump steer with a lowered truck and the conversion?

I think it may reduce turning radius, just form my experience with that rack on the C10's. Now, I could be completely wrong, but would have to mock it up first, and that will tell us everything we need to know.

I am not sure on bump steer, and that is something that would be determined after we make the kit. We can do things to reduce the bump steer, if we find it is excessive.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Got the brakes all done, and drove the truck home. It truly does stop way better than before and am impressed with the results. It stops very well now! We ended up with a 13" rotor in the rear, which allowed the brake to moved closer to the wheel, since the 13" rotor has a shallower center hat. The front still uses the 14" front with the C5 caliper.

These trucks have a lot of variables on rear ends they used. These kits are for sale now, but need to measure axle housing bolt pattern and axle offset to ensure the proper fit. Our particular truck, was messed with. The rear rotor will not be double drilled like you see here. This rotor was already double drilled and used for this guinea pig truck.

Next up will be overhauling the suspension, and finishing the drop on the truck to sit it down lower. Ordered all new control arms, steering parts, bushings, etc. Our plan is to get the underneath all done, then off to paint.

Plans for suspension are a combination of parts. Right now there is a McGaughys drop spindle up front. We are going to pair that with StreetEdge drop springs, drop leafs in the rear and C-notch. Then using BellTech sways bars for both front and rear with BellTech shocks.

We opted for a drop leafs, since the PO's pulled leafs from the leaf pack. Figured we would source a drop leaf instead of finding a stock spring. This way we get new bushings and lowers the drop all in one shot. It already has a drop shackle in the back.

The truck has 20x8.5 / 20x10 Hot Rods by Boyd Smoothies 3's that came off my '63. We had the rears re-rimmed to the proper offset and width we wanted. Tires are a 255/40/20 and a 295/40/20.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Some small updates. Got the front suspension torn off the truck, and getting ready to put all new control arms on. Also at this time, we will do the new Street Edge drop springs, BellTech sway bar and McGaughys shocks. While at it, we are going to replace all steering components, including the steering box. It had some play, and want the truck to drive extremely well. We will explore the R&P idea, but for now, this will get us on the road.

It was actually cheaper to buy brand new arms, than get bushings and ball joints and have them replaced. It was surprising to me this was the case. We cleaned up the frame a little. It will be a driver, so it is not perfect, but does look a little better. Did a sating black, but looks gloss since I took this picture when it was wet still.

The new Dakota gauges also showed up, but have a while until we get to that install.

Made a little more progress this week. Got the bed pulled and next will be handling the rear suspension. Be doing 4" drop leafs, shackles and c-notch from Street Edge, while being paired with a BellTech sway bar.

Since there is a little more room, we will also address the cab mounts and put in new poly ones from Prothane.
