I love false advertising. GM crate motor with 19300955 heads. The intake side comes drilled for the vortec style intake and the original 12 bolt style. The features list in the catalog as well as online both list being able to run early or late style intakes. The plan was to run the original 66 corvette solid valve covers with the original intake with the oil fill pipe in it. Went to test fit the intake and the bolt holes line up perfectly. The runners on the head however stick up past the head about 1/16-1/8" on both sides. Called GM and was told that you need to run a raised runner intake to use the old flange. It sounds like a vortec intake will fit but the only vortec intake I have found with a fill pipe hole or a place to drill the hole is a 3x2bbl intake. If I can't find an intake with the fill pipe the only other option is to send the intake out to the weld shop and see if they can add 1/4"or so above the runners too close the gap. Looking for any and all options on this. Thanks
Nick

I think this is what you need if I'm reading your post correctly, but you'll have to have the oil fill hole drilled/machined - it only has the blank pad for where the filler goes. Are you wanting squarebore or spreadbore carb bolt pattern?

It seems like machining the oil fill hole on the 'right' intake is less headache and cheaper than welding the ports on the intake you have now. Hope this helps. Here's the rest of the intakes from them.

I will keep that in mind. It looks like there is a coolant passage cast across it but that could be welded shut.

You were going to run an old 4GC on that original intake? That's what type it is, right?

The intake that was planned has the standard Holley flange.

I feel your pain. I faced the same delima late last year. Bought a set of Vortec style cylinder heads that are cross drilled for both Vortec style intakes and Non-vortec style intakes. Well as I found out the intake runners are too tall and the gaskets and earlier stock cast iron intake wont cover them up.

I was set on using the cast iron intake with oil fill tube as well. In the end, I ordered up a set of non Vortec style heads. I still have the Vortec style heads sitting around. Will use them on another project. Would have been nice to no that they weren't capatable with the earlier intake manifolds before I purchased them. Could have saved me $800 and change.

After 16 years with GM I should be used to stupid engineering by now. I'm going to call Edelbrock tomorrow when they open and see if they have anything. So far the only vortec flange intake I have found with a filter pipe is a triple 2bbl intake. If that falls through that's a company that makes new valve covers that look like the original solid vette covers but with baffles built in and a spot on the side for pcv and vent hoses.
