I have installed a 454 in a 72 blazer used small block 4x4 mounts hei dist. had to gently massage firewall at distributor and lower corners of valve covers ran stock covers had to do the same on 71 swb pickup also 4x4

Were both 4x's? Sounds like the 4x's have the engine set further back than the 2x's

The automatic trans mount on the frame is different. Big block only 2wd

I know this is probably a long shop. But do you happen to have any dimensions on your cuts and recessed sections on the firewall?
