Fuel filler options
Im now putting the 69 short bed back together and Im second guessing my orignal plan of putting my fuel filler behind the left tail light. I was thinking of getting a fuel door from the scrap yard but really hate cutting up a nice orignal bedside. What do you guys think??? Lets see what you have done???

Re: Fuel filler options
I like when they are in the tail light...and I also don't like when people cut the bedside to put one in.

Re: Fuel filler options
i like when tanks are in the cab
your truck do what you want to it you could always chop up the shortbed and make it into a longbed to b different |
Re: Fuel filler options
Had planned on doing the side door thing, but I think I have decided to go with a camaro tank and license plate filler:

Re: Fuel filler options
I had to think about what i use my truck for before i decided, I haul stuff, i may put a camper on it and i pull a trailer so that rules out the rear license plate area and anywhere inside the bed. That left me with the rear light or a fuel door on the bedside.
The frame being a long bed 3/4t put the tank in my opinion too far from the rear ( again with a tow reciver) of the bed to do a light fill.. |

Re: Fuel filler options
I am also doing the Camaro tank with the fold down license plate. No cutting the bedside or floor.

Re: Fuel filler options
I started the same thread in the 73-87 section. I have a dually that I am replacing the saddle tanks with a burb tank and have the same dilemma. I think I am going to do the taillight option but maybe you want to keep an eye on this thread also.
Good luck! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=439908 Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Fuel filler options
I have a customers truck that I am going to put a blazer tank into. My plan is to move the filler neck to the rear behind the license plate.

Re: Fuel filler options
Don't have any pics loaded in the computer right now but when I moved my in-the-cab tank to the rear behind the axle I put the fuel filler inside the bed on the left side wheel well tub, bout mid-way up the back side. Used a screw on type fuel cap/fill tube from a early 90's truck. Had to do some tube bending and such but it fills well with no problems. If I can find the pics on a disk I will try and post them.

I like em done in the bedside with a later model door. 99 percent of the people would have no idea that it wasn't stock.

Re: Fuel filler options
I've pondered on this as well. I like the taillight idea and especially the marker light idea but it looks pretty cumbersome trying to get the pump nozzle in there. I've never seen it done in person so maybe I am wrong. At this point I am leaning towards grafting in a fuel door. I think everyone I have seen is a square door, I am considering using an 88-98 style truck filler which is round. I think it might go better with the body lines, not sure though...
Heres a random pic for reference. http://www.moldestuket.com/gmcsierra15.JPG |

We installed a late model fuel door in the rear panel.
I used a filler neck cover out of a 80's model blazer to cover the filler neck in the bed. It looks great. I don't have a pic of that but you'll see the result when you look at the way its used in the blazer. I am a big fan of moving the tank to the rear. More room in the cab . The interior really opens up behind the bucket seats. Good Luck |
