Drums have more friction area, but heat up a lot faster.

Myself I would do rear disk, but it is up to your pocket book too. Or you can try to find a 77 or so Cadillac Seville as they have a 10 bolt with disks. Or I even think late model Caprices had them too. Both with the 5x5 pattern which make the swap around easier.

No....You don't need disc on the rear.

A lot depends on what you're asking the truck to do. Street use only? Track use (and what type of track)?

What kind of tires and what size? Don't do much good to have awesome brakes if you're running stock size street tires.

I've heard it said that 70% - 80% of the braking is in the front brakes. I'd wonder if it isn't higher in a truck with the less weight in the rear ... which would make rear disc even less needed.

I'll be running a built 383 with a T56 for street use only and plan on running the stock drums in the rear. Not saying I won't be looking to upgrade to rear disc in the future but initial plans for now are the drums.

disc brakes also have have the nice feature of being able to be modulated.. which is ever so needed in a truck

also since you have a 12 bolt think of the disc brakes as a poor mans c clip elims.

I have ran drum brakes in the rear with disc up front for nearly 10 years with a 400 hp 327 and now a 525 hp 496 for a year. Stops just fine. I am looking to replace my shocks for better ride. Goes good, stops good, need better ride.

It will a street truck I doubt it will see the track much but I do have a lead foot and an intolerance for these pos Honda punks that are around here ... Don't get me wrong I've seen some nice Hondas but around here most are turbo piles of scrap..... And I want to run 10s or 12s on the back I have a stepside does anyone know if the will fit .... I'm running 8s up front

I run 8s on the rear with lots of room. 10s should be no problem but you need to have the correct back space.
