Yup, once at a parts store. It was an 87 GMC. The owner used it just for running parts. The body was perfect with faded paint. It only needed cosmetic work. I asked him to sell it to me. He said no. I did give him my phone number just incase one day he decides to sell it.

A good friend had a '83 short bed step side 2wd with the 6.2l. Got amazing fuel mileage on the highway with the 700r4 and 3.08 gears.

Mine was a diesel from the factory, built in Fontana California. The only way to tell now is the hydroboost .

There was a cherry two wheel drive short bed diesel on Craigslist near me a few months ago I think it was a 1987 , I would have bought it if it was long bed .

I had an 87 Chevy R10 SWB Diesel. It was a Sierra Classic with all the bells and whistles. Special ordered by the owner of a small rock quarry over in Redmond Washington. It was pretty beat when I got it. I drove it about 40k miles and only fixed up the interior some. I sold it when I got my much nicer 86 GMC long bed. I saw it still running about a year ago and it looked like it had been to hell and back.

My dad owned the first one sold west of the Mississippi. It was delivered to Cortez Colorado in 1978. Truck was white with a Buckskin insert.

I actually have a 84 silverado short bed that originally came 6.2l with 700r4, 4x4, air conditioning, tilt wheel, power windows and locks, with the dual front shock absorbers. The guy before me put a 350 gas with turbo 350 transmission in it. I am now in the process of putting back a 700r4. I got it last year had snow plow controls in it and is still one of the cleanest square body's around the frame is solid with no rust

question did the 70s trucks have a diesel emblem on the grill like the 350/454 emblem? can you post a picture of it if it did.

Yes, they were in the lower driver side corner. Yellow and orange stripes. Check out my build thread for pics.

They definitely aren't re-popped. And probably never will be. But I may have an extra one if I can find it. I have several extra fender badges.

Re: Never seen a 2wd shortbed diesel????

There were a lot of them around here back in the day 2 and 4 wheel drive. I pass by one sitting in front of an old barn everyday. Short4x4. I also know a guy that has an 86 Silverado k10 6.2 with 57000 original miles on it. I have been going to ask him the story behind it but I keep forgetting to ask him when I see him.

I was debating on calling on that one but don't know a single thing about diesels. Very cool truck though. Hmmmm. My profile changes didn't take. I moved to Tucson a few months ago. A lot of nice old trucks out here

Re: Never seen a 2wd shortbed diesel????

There's a 4wd shorty for sale here in MI. No motor but it has an A833 so most likely was a 6.2, as that is the most common motor in front of that trans.

Re: Never seen a 2wd shortbed diesel????

They are definitely getting harder to find. I might be on the look for a good while. As picky as I can be it might be quite a while.

Friend of mine had a '82 6.2 SWB 2wd in the mid 80's.

My dad had a 83 6.2 SWB 4wd about the same time frame.
