Console repair Saddle Paint and restore

2 Attachment(s)
1972 Blazer Console restore. I repaired a 4 inch crack on the top back where they all split. I used 2 part epoxy with fiberglass matting on the inside. Took everything apart and cleaned and prepped. Then sprayed it with Sem paint. The color is a bit lighter than I want. I may re-
do it if someone can tell me a product that is closer to factory Saddle. overall I am very happy the way it turned out.

Console looks great. What sort of prep work did you do to the console prior to paint? I've got a console to repair and redo in parchment.

Here's a thread on attempts to match the dark saddle interior in a 72: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=7956593

I scrubbed and cleaned it with soap that's used for black streaks on RV's. Dried it . Then used a three step Sem spray procedure. 1- degreaser paint prep 2- spray prep for letting the paint stick, 3- Sem Saddle paint.

Pete, I also painted the trim plate around the ashtray because it was rusted. sand it down then primed it and then sprayed it with silver wheel spray. very durable. looks good to. The chrome trim ring I used oooo steel wool. a1

Good info thanks. I couldn't find a helpful guide on the SEM website last time I checked. Steel wool works great. Lately I've been using bronze wool with a similar effect.

I've got a container of the SEM soap, cans of plastic SEM plastic prep, and an adhesion promoter. Since I've had no luck matching a NOS parchment door panel I'm going to paint an excellent set of black door panels too in addition to bucket seat panels and a NOS set of black arm rests.

I am also doing a parchment console. Here is the color some are saying is close. Sem 15103 Super White. It sounds to white by name but I will see.

Thanks! I've got the same. I've had the cans sitting atop a bench in the garage for months. Every week or so I invert the cans on the superstition that I'm keeping the pigment in suspension :)

I'll tackle the project soon as the temperature improves and will do some split repair to the rubber mats with rubber cement

I got some paint from classic industries. It's OER branded, but probably just relabeled from colorbond or someone. Test sprayed and is very very close match. p/n: PP818 COLOR COAT SPRAY M42 DK SADDLE

The guy on ebay who sells restored consoles media blasts them. Last I spoke with him he said they are all the same color once the dye is removed. I would imagine its real low pressure blasting.

I used acetone to remove the old paint, took it right down to the fiberglass. lots and lots of rags.

Same here, acetone with brillo pads and rags, takes the paint right off

Good, glad I can help, looks great! Haven't gotten around yet to spray rear armrests yet, but maybe this weekend. Might touch up some other pieces as well
