No tail lights ?!? Help .

So I took the 71 blazer out tonight and I have no tail lights or side markers . But I have headlights .
My tail light fuse was blown so I replaced it and it blew right away . No lights .
What should I check ?
I really need this thing on the road .
Thanks.

Does it have a tilt steering wheel?

The reason I ask about tilt wheel, mine had a wire that would get pinched if I put the wheel all the way up and would blow tail lights every time. Could be in the steering column.

blown fuse indicates a dead short in the circuit....the brown wire going to the rear harness is the running (tail) lights...NOT the brake lights.....at the rear cross member there is a connector for the rear light harness...unplug it and try the new fuse again...

if it doesn't blow again then the short is in the taillight harness...if it does then the short is before the connector/harness....either way you will need to trace the wire to find where it's shorted...

So I messed around tonight and the fuse will not blow unless the headlight switches ON.
With the headlight switch off, the brake lights work. But when the switch is turned on the fuse blows instantly ..... what the heck ?

Re: No tail lights ?!? Help .

there is no power going to the lights UNTIL you pull the switch on....so it won't blow a fuse if there is no current to it...the switch simply feeds power into the light circuit...again there is a dead short somewhere in the circuit.....probably a bare or burnt wire. you're gonna have to trace the wires to find it...
The brake lights and running lights are separate circuits....so the brake light circuit has nothing to do with the light circuit....it only operates the brake and signal lights.

Do you have a wiring diagram for your truck?
