NP241 torque rod mounting?
 

New to the 4x4 world, in fact have never owned a 4wd. I live in the 82-87 square body space. Ultimate goal is to buy a 700/208 equipped truck long bed light 3/4 4wd. Power will either be a turbo'd 250 or a 5.3 LS, which would then take a 4L60E. I have a 700 cover with the support rods that run up to the engine mounts. I also have a 32 spline 208 in case in case I get a smoking deal on an early-ish 4L80.

I recently picked up a passenger drop NP241 out of a 1990 K5, with the 'short' adaptor and t-case cross member.. It came with the torque rod on the passenger side. I've seen some discussions on whether or not to use this but I've never seen a picture of where it mounts to. Anyone got an illustration, and do the 208's on earlier trucks use this set up?

The torque rod mounts to one of the bellhousing bolts. Often times they never get put back on when reinstalling the trans/t-case. Is it needed? Probably not, but GM thought it was a good idea for it to be on there if that tells you anything.

I have one on my '70 Jimmy project. It's on a 4500/208 combo...but same concept. I clocked the t-case up a little and had to add a small spacer behind the rod where it mounts to the bell, from the factory it would have been flat against it.

Edit: I'm assuming you figured out/know how it mounts on the t-case. It uses the two big holes/bolts on the flat spot of the passenger side of the case.

Thanks for the picture, I didn't picture that construction even though it still attached to the case. I was thinking it was like the early ones that attached to the frame, which were taken off as soon as a body lift was installed.

Now I just need the rest of the parts for this lash up...

ive owned a few of these style trucks and used to run 38s and go offroading almost every weekend and have never ran that bar. i didnt even know one existed til like my 3rd truck as everyone seemed to always leave them off. maybe i never ran enough horse power to need it :)
