Parking light question.

Just had a Painless harness installed and my parking lights cut off when I turn on the headlights. Is it supposed to do that? I though they stayed on? Truck is a '70...w/ '71-'72 grill and bumper if that matters but pig tails and all should be the same, right?

The 69 and newer trucks were wired to have the parking lights on anytime the light switch is in park or on headlights. Yours should be on with the headlights. The switch in you truck might have been changed to an older style. This picture shows the older style.

And this one is the newer style. See the note on terminal 7

Thank you, VetteVet. I'll take a look and see what switch I have. If it's the right one, then I have another problem.

way back in the mid 80s i did a cab change on a 72 with a 67 cab and put a jumper wire from the park lights to the tail lights at the switch ran it like that for many years never a problem

Re: Parking light question.

I re-read your post and I'm not so sure that you have the wrong switch because if the Painless harness is for the 69 and up trucks It wouldn't fit the older switch, I don't think it will anyway. You may have gotten the older harness and the jumper will fix it. There aren't a lot of differences between the older harnesses and the newer ones. You'll just have to check out the light switch. If you have the newer switch and the harness to match then we'll have to go from there.

digging up old thread...and hoping for some advice

I have the opposite problem...I have a 67 and the parking lights are staying ON when the headlights are on (subsequently I don't get any blink when the headlamps are on)

The PO put in a Painless wiring kit and fuse block. any suggestions on how to get it to behave like a 67?
